Flotsam and Jetsam - Trump Going After Putin

Mary Chastain at LI, Trump Threatens Russia With Sanctions, Tariffs Until Putin Agrees to Ceasefire, "The post comes after Russia attacked homes in Odesa." Sarah Arnold at TownHall wonders Is Putin Ready for a Truce With Ukraine? If he gets the right deal. Bonchie at RedState says Russia Just Spit in Trump's Face, and It's Time They Reap the Whirlwind. The Telegraph reports US ‘to cease all future military exercises in Europe’ but Sundance at CTH calls it Sketchy Sourcing: Trump considering pulling 35,000 US troops out of Germany as President becoming ‘increasingly frustrated’ with Europe "As much as we may want this to actually happen, the sourcing for the original claim is rather dubious. “A source close to the White House told The Telegraph: “Trump is angry that they [Europe] appear to be pushing for war.”” From ZeroHedge, Poland & Baltic Nations Welcome Macron's Words Of Nuclear Escalation Aimed At Russia. NewsMax cites Italian PM Meloni: NATO Could Cover Ukraine With Defense Protection. I'll believe it when I see it. At RCP, the Great Victor Davis Hanson has Five Ukrainian Fables. Professor Peter Arenella @arenella1 "At this point, my only hope for the US to avoid becoming an ally to Russia is a violent resistance by our military. Tragic to say that because the military are trained to avoid any politically motivated intervention. Firing all the Joint Chief of Staff military leaders and replacing them with military acolytes of Trump anticipated that possibility and acted swiftly to minimize that type of intervention. Ultimately, we will get what we deserve by giving Trump a second chance to destroy our democracy." Chase@ItsChaseBurger "So let me get this straight: The left support "democracy" lasts until the exact moment you start losing elections? Makes sense."

'Becca Lower at RedState reports JD Vance Speaks Up for Normal People After Ukraine Activists Once Again Pester His Young Family. JD Vance@JDVance, "Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of “Slava Ukraini” protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared. I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone. (Nearly all of them agreed.) It was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a shit person." At Althouse, "Tell me about the social media meme that's just different images of JD Vance." "For the annals of Things I Asked Grok."

France24, European court rejects bid to overturn Romania vote annulment. Going through the motions of Democracy. From Fox, Trump says 'something's going to happen very soon' with Iran as he pushes to negotiate nuclear deal, 'If we have to go in militarily, it's going to be a terrible thing for them.' Capt. Ed at Hat Hair, Trump to Iran: Let's Make a Deal? "Is this another Godfather-esque play to make Ali Khamenei an offer he can't refuse? Is it a reversal on Barack Obama's JCPOA? Or is it a way to de-escalate with both Russia and China and dial down tensions by restoring commerce as the main medium of international relations? Or is this just spitballing to suss out the possibilities?" At the UK Sun, Trump’s iconic Turnberry golf course is wrecked by pro-Palestine protesters after he unveiled shock ‘Gaza Riveria’ plans "Multiple holes were damaged with threatening messages painted on walls."

Larry Elder at Hat Hair, sees The Trump Effect: Winning Hearts and Minds. At Da Caller, Don Jr. Asks Reporter ‘Are You F*cking Retarded?’ when she asked him if he would run in 2028. Matt Margolis at PJM thinks The Media Can't Hide This Trump Victory Forever: "It turns out that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Trump completed the hazardous materials cleanup in Los Angeles in just 29 days—far ahead of initial projections. “The estimates were it was going to take 18 months,” Jennings pointed out. “But this is the cleanup of the hazardous material that you have to do in order to start rebuilding. Twenty-nine days.”" And, Something Huge for the MAHA Movement Is About To Happen. RFK Jr. to sit down with junk food manufacturers. Leslie Eastman at LI, The New York Times Mocks RFK Jr for Vitamin A Guidance to Combat Texas Measles Outbreak "A great deal of research shows Vitamin A can be of benefit to those infected by measles." He is stressing the measles vaccine, but if you haven't got it by now, it takes a while to take effect, so you might as well boost your immune system.

Trump Posts on 𝕏 @trump_repost, "The House and Senate have put together, under the circumstances, a very good funding Bill ("CR")! All Republicans should vote (Please!) YES next week. Great things are coming for America, and I am asking you all to give us a few months to get us through to September so we can continue to put the Country's "financial house" in order. Democrats will do anything they can to shut down our Government, and we can't let that happen. We have to remain UNITED — NO DISSENT — Fight for another day when the timing is right. VERY IMPORTANT. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" At NRO, Trump Kills an Intrusive Housing Rule, Again "This past week, Scott Turner, President Trump’s new secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), announced that HUD would be terminating the notoriously intrusive Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule. By attaching strings to billions of dollars in community development block grants from HUD, AFFH gives the feds the ability to control zoning regulations and many other aspects of local government." Kevin Killough at JTN reports Trump put the brakes on offshore wind, now critics of onshore wind want to be heard too "Like critics of offshore wind, opponents of wind farms on land say the projects ruin the the countryside, impact historic sites and harm wildlife." Trump saves whales, Democrats opposed. At OTP, Trump Cracks Down On Loan Forgiveness That Funds ‘Illegal Activities’ "President Trump signed an executive order on Friday to exclude nonprofits that he says engage in “the subsidization of illegal activities” from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). The executive order states “individuals employed by organizations whose activities have a substantial illegal purpose shall not be eligible for public service loan forgiveness.”"

Owen Gregorian@OwenGregorian "DHS Ends TSA Collective Bargaining After Bombshell Finding Of 'More Full-Time Union Workers' Than Airport Screeners | ZeroHedge The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is ending collective bargaining for Transportation Security Officers with the TSA, Fox News reports, citing a release obtained by Fox Business. According to the report, The TSA has more people doing "full-time union work" vs. performing actual screening functions at 86% of US airports. Put another way, 374 out of 432 federalized airports have fewer than 200 TSA Officers to perform screening functions, while the rest are paid by the government but work "full-time on union matters" and do not retain certification to perform screening. . . At the Pop Times, FEMA Fires Three More Supervisors Who Directed Crews to Avoid Pro-Trump Homes. "That brings the total number of FEMA employees given the boot to four. Wall Street Apes@WallStreetApes, "Rep Tim Burchett says he’s willing to lose his job to tell us the REAL REASON government officials are opposing Elon Musk and DOGE “They’re gonna push back because you’ve got Congressmen on both sides of the aisle. If they follow that paper trail, it's going to come back to them. You've got their wife and or girlfriend that works for some agency, quasi-agency or some business. This towns as crooked as a dogs leg” “I’ll get primaried for saying that but that’s the truth and we all know it” “Somebody’s gonna straight it out, it looks like it’s gonna be Elon Musk.” Mia Cathell at TownHall reports USAID Chief Reportedly Considering Criminal Referrals. Sister Toldja at RedState, Democrat Heartbreak As CNN Polling Analyst Harry Enten Reveals What Americans Really Think of DOGE "Americans on Trump and DOGE's efforts. Musk and DOGE should influence government spending and operations. Look at this, 54 percent. The majority say that he and they should." Atop Da Hill, Why DOGE is and will remain popular, even if its cuts are small.
So far, DOGE claims that is has saved about $65 billion in federal funds. So far, I have seen people make every argument — from “DOGE is revolutionizing the government” on the one side to “These cuts are basically just a rounding error” on the other. What people don’t realize is that both can be true at the same time.

Let’s start with the $65 billion. How much is that? It’s enough to cut a $450 check to every taxpayer every year. That’s actually quite a significant amount of money if you look at it that way.

But let’s take the flipside. We pay more than $900 billion every year just on interest on the government’s $36 trillion debt. In that sense, DOGE naysayers are not wrong when they say the savings constitute a drop in the bucket.

Insty, IS ELON MUSK AN “OFFICER OF THE UNITED STATES?” "Subject matter expert Seth Barrett Tillman responds to a claim by Prof. Katherine Shaw: “Shaw indicated that the test for being an ‘officer of the United States’ is that the purported officer exercises ‘significant power.’ That is entirely wrong.” UPDATE: Prof. Katherine “Kate” Shaw is Chris Hayes’ wife, FYI." Da Blaze hears Trump berates journalist asking about reported shouting match between Musk and Rubio: 'You're just a troublemaker'. At RCP, DOGE Has Consultant Cabal on the Run. "Fresh from a run through federal agencies that saw budgets (and heads) exploding all over Washington, Elon Musk and the DOGE team have turned their Starlink satellite and aimed its powerful laser at the most inflated portion of the unofficial “shadow” bureaucracy: government consultants. This has the biggest names in the business – like Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte, and IBM – getting nervous, and with good reason."

Insurrection Barbie @DefiyantlyFree, "12 billion dollars was allocated to the Navy for submarines and not one submarine was built. 42.5 billion dollars was allocated to hook people up to high-speed Internet, and not one single person was hooked up to high-speed Internet. 7.5 billion dollars was allocated to build EV charging stations. Only 37 stations were built. Thats 200 million per charging station. Where is the rest of the money?" "'It is just like a money laundering scheme,' expert tells the Free Beacon." Althouse, "Literally mutilating animals. Mutilating animals in demented studies that are like the worst thing you could possibly imagine from a horror show...." "Right. So, I mean, the reality is that our elected officials have very, very little power relative to the bureaucracy until DOGE. So DOGE is a threat to the bureaucracy. It's the first threat to the bureaucracy. Normally the bureaucracy eats revolutions for breakfast. This is the first time that they're not, that the revolution might actually succeed. That we could restore power to the people instead of power to the bureaucracy." Said Elon Musk, on the Joe Rogan podcast last week." Jeff Carlson @themarketswork "There’s one obvious reason why the unions might be doing this. Massive social security fraud with fake employee dues flowing into union coffers - and being used for political contributions in the process." Quote KY3 News@kytv, "Unions ask court to stop DOGE from accessing Social Security data of millions of Americans: https://ky3.com/2025/03/08/uni."

NYPo ed board says Bring the hammer down on Perkins Coie and every other player in the Russigate scandal. Eric Schmitt @Eric_Schmitt, "The American Bar Association sat on the sidelines as our legal system was weaponized against normal Americans. Now, they launch a pressure campaign against President Trump on day one. We’ve had enough. It’s time to liberate our legal system from this failed institution." Misty Severi reports the Trump Organization sues Capital One for closing bank accounts after January 6 riot. "The lawsuit, which was filed in Florida, alleged that the bank's actions were the result of "political and social motivations." At Althouse, "The same basic separation-of-powers principles that counsel against a court maintaining a prosecution over the executive's objection support dismissal with prejudice here." "So writes Paul D. Clement, responding — at the request of the judge — to the Justice Department’s motion to dismiss charges against Eric Adams."

At Insty, ANDY NGO: Whatever happened to antifa? "Then there’s Elon Musk. Following his takeover of Twitter, now X, in October 2022, many key antifa accounts involved in organizing, recruiting and disseminating propaganda and fundraising were suspended for violating rules against inciting violence. These accounts should have been suspended under the previous regime, but as the Twitter Files revealed, the company had a left-wing political culture and policies were unevenly applied. In November 2022, after I reported on the violent extremists of CrimethInc., an antifa extremist collective that produces guides on why and how to commit violent crimes, Musk suspended their account. Other accounts escaped suspension but chose to de-platform themselves from X. They feared their private messages could be accessed and turned over to law enforcement. Most of them relocated first to Mastodon, and are now at Bluesky, two smaller Twitter alternatives where leftist violence and death threats are tolerated."

"For all the talk of insurrection surrounding January 6th, the truth of the matter is that if people were simply deciding on laws and executive orders without the president being aware of it, it’s an insurrection. They took over for the sitting president without the consent of the people." Jerry Dunleavy at JTN writes Despite his claims of being broke, Hunter Biden's 'lawfare' continues against IRS whistleblowers.

I Still Blame Jenny McCarthy

There’s a “reasonable chance” that the US will soon lose its status as a country that has eliminated measles. That’s according to Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The World Health Organization considers a disease eliminated from a country or region if it has gone at least 12 months without continuous spread of said disease. (This is different from disease eradication, which is when a disease is completely stamped out globally. Humans have only managed to eradicate two diseases: smallpox and rinderpest, which infects cattle and other ruminants.)
Jenny McCarthy (and Robert F.  Kennedy Jr.) were early celebrity anti-vaccine activists, after her son was discovered to be autistic. Wikipedia still lists her as an anti-vaccine activist, although I think I recall she recanted later. Excellent examples of why you should never listen to models, actors or Kennedys on medicine or politics.
The US triumphantly declared measles eliminated in 2000—after spending decades tenaciously working to promote widespread vaccination. (The CDC had originally hoped to have it eliminated by 1982.) And in 2016, the WHO declared measles eliminated from the Americas altogether. WHO’s Regional Office for the Americas (PAHO) celebrated the news with announcements titled, in part, “Bye, bye measles!”

But now—after a global resurgence of the highly infectious viral illness, spurred partly by misinformation and vocal anti-vaccine advocates—both of those achievements are close to being undone.
The problem with such activism is that as is often the case, the lie gets out and spread, and the refutation is muted and disbelieved by people who have put their beliefs on them.
Massive outbreaks of measles ignited late last September in New York. The disease has continued to spread in flare-ups around the country, sickening a total of 1,215 people since the start of 2019. This week, the CDC reported 12 new cases from the week before. Experts expect the weekly case counts will rise with the start of school—and they’re bracing for a stinging defeat.

"We're embarrassed. We're chagrined," infectious disease experts Dr. William Schaffner from Vanderbilt University told CNN.

Messonnier echoed the feeling, telling CNN: "It certainly is incredibly frustrating and upsetting to the public health community that we may lose measles elimination status, because we do have a safe and effective vaccine.”

Ebola's Deadly Second Wave: Measles

Roll over Ebola: measles is the deadly new threat
Experts say Liberia and its neighbours Guinea and Sierra Leone are ripe for an outbreak that could infect hundreds of thousands, dwarfing the carnage wrought by Ebola.

Death once again stalks impoverished communities like Peace Island, a cramped spit of land surrounded by swamp where 30,000 people sought refuge behind the abandoned Ministry of Defence after Liberia's 1989-2003 civil wars.
. . .
The west African Ebola outbreak has infected around 25,000 people. Crucially, some 852 of those cases have been healthcare workers, 492 of whom have died.

Researchers estimate that measles immunisations in the region -- typically ranging between 60 and 80 percent of children -- had fallen by 75 percent because of the Ebola crisis.

As a result, 100,000 more children could get measles, in addition to the 127,000 cases already anticipated among children who have not been vaccinated in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Researchers forecast that on top of the 7,000 measles deaths that the countries would normally anticipate, up to 16,000 additional children could die from measles thanks to Ebola-related disruptions to healthcare.
The shocking thing is that relatively intelligent (not wise, but intelligent) parents in the US are threatening to bring back third world health problems with their over blown worries about vaccination side effects.
