Flotsam and Jetsam - Talarico Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?

Matt Margolis at PJM, Journalist Puts Talarico on the Clock, Threatens to Expose Where He Really Was. At Twitchy, 'You Tell Them OR WE WILL': Nick Sortor Drops the Biggest TIK-TOK We've Ever Seen on James Talarico. Nick Sortor @nicksortor, "Good morning, @JamesTalarico! Would YOU like to reveal where you *actually* were these past couple weeks, or should me and @RheinAmacher do it? Please let us know by 1pm ET today! Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Kyle Becker at RedState, says the Mystery of 'Missing' Talarico May Be Solved After Journo Seemingly 'Confirms' Whereabouts. Nick Sortor @nicksortor, "BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Ohio mental hospital CONFIRMS James Talarico was discharged from the facility earlier this week The “flu” thing was a BIG FAT LIE Following reporting by @SaraGonzalesTX and @CarolineWren, a hospital employee told @RheinAmacher and I that Talarico had in fact been a patient at the Lindner Center of Hope near Cincinnati, Ohio, which specializes in around-the-clock mental health treatment. While I sympathize with those dealing with mental health crises, this man is CLEARLY not suited to become a US Senator representing over 30 MILLION TEXANS. The job doesn’t get easier after being elected — it only gets MORE stressful. And Talarico clearly can’t handle it. I pray he gets the help he needs, but Texans need a real representative they can rely on." The hospital denies it, however. Matt Vespa at TownHall wants to know Was James Talarico Admitted to a Mental Health Facility in Ohio? Matt Margolis, Audio Appears to Confirm Talarico’s Stay at Mental Health Facility; Campaign Denies It and Talarico FINALLY Speaks, and I Think He Just Made Things Worse. Rasmussen Reports @Rasmussen_Poll, "Texas Senate Update - The Ohio mental health center denies treating James Talarico" Quote Lindner Center HOPE @LindnerCtrHope, "Representative James Talarico has never received treatment from Lindner Center of Hope." Stephen L. Miller @redsteeze, "I wish I could give the benefit of the doubt on this one, but these are the same people who called us liars and conspiracy theorists for 4 years with Joe Biden. You don't get that grace anymore." Quote Just the News @JustTheNews, "Newly released audio raises questions about Talarico’s absence from campaign trial (sic)." Byron York @ByronYork, "Seems odd that Talarico stayed off the trail for so long because of illness without explaining to the public what was going on. Why not just say, I've got the flu, and I can do some brief virtual appearances, but mostly I need to rest for a while?" Quote NBC News @NBCNews, "Democratic state Rep. James Talarico has been off the trail for 12 days. His campaign says he is suffering from the flu and expected to be back in action this weekend." So, we know he's crazy, but did he actually seek treatment? From Twitchy, Uhh, They're Not Here for You: Team Talarico Tries to Take a Victory Lap at Kacey Musgraves Concert. "We won't deny that some people next to the rail as Talarico made his way to the front row (of course) recognized him and were taking videos. But we're pretty sure that most of the cheers in the arena were for Musgraves. Since, you know, that's who the crowd paid to see." Joe Chalfant at TownHall reveals some Influencers Got Payouts to Post Pro-Talarico Content. ATX data @data_atx, "The Talarico influencer army is NOT organic and real NYTimes report out today says tiktokers are being paid $4 per 1000 views for positive Talarico content Back in the day, the Beto fans posted for free!" So, maybe I'll put up a Talarice ad in a Rule 5 post.

Spencer Pratt @spencerpratt, "While Nithya Raman is desperately trying to delete videos of her recklessly calling people fascists like a psycho, don’t forget…she called me, a fire victim with zero institutional power, a fascist…all because I wanted to get naked drug zombies into rehab so my kids don’t have to see psychos jack off in public. She is just the worst." Quote TheBlaze @theblaze, "LA mayoral candidate Nithya Raman says Spencer Pratt represents “fascism” and calls him “Mini Trump”" Will she be worse than Zohran? To wit, from the Free Bacon, Colorado Dem Manny Rutinel Takes Credit for $350 Million Police Fund Proposed by Conservative Group and Passed by Voters, "‘Manny never once reached out to support the campaign for prop 130, which was a ballot measure passed by voters, not legislators,’ Advance Colorado VP says."

Another good reason to eliminate the Houthis. At Homeland Security Today, Terrorism-Related Encounters Surge at Southwest Ports of Entry, Analysis Finds. Now that the porous border has been hardened. "U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Southwest border ports of entry recorded more than 11,250 “terrorism-related encounters” in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2026 — more than twice as many as in FY 2025 and more than 100 times the previous administration’s record, according to a new analysis by Center for Immigration Studies."

Lisa Britton @LisaBritton, "This Reddit user is right… There’s been a war on male spaces for decades now. Fraternities are one of the last still around. Palm Sunday

With Moe Stuck:

Legal Planet.org, Ban The Palm? "Streets For All Wants To — But Is it More About Attention Than The Environment?"
Palm trees are not native to Los Angeles. They are tropical plants, and this region is very much not tropical (at least not yet). Only one species derives from southern California, and it is not the most common one on the city’s streets and boulevards. So why are there so many palms here? Unsurprisingly, it’s from civic boosterism: thousands of palms were planted in preparation for the first time Los Angeles hosted the Summer Olympics, in 1932.

Now, an advocacy group, Streets For All, has decided to make a splash about it.
Streets For All has launched a social media campaign “Palm trees are a scam”, blasting the trees for guzzling water, providing little shade and being dangerous during fires and high winds.

“Time for LA to replace Palm Trees with trees that provide actual shade and cool down our city,” the group declared. “Palm trees suck at doing the one thing trees need to do in cities: provide actual shade,” the group argued.

They want the city to plant more broad-canopy trees, such as sycamores, which the group says provide more shade and help cool city streets.
On one level, SFA’s argument makes sense: if you are trying to create shade – and in the realm of climate adaptation, we will very much need to – taking out palm trees makes sense.

But the rest? Not so much.
My parent's house in Rancho Park had three very tall fan palms, and two huge Canary Island Date palms. They must have dated from that era. I just found it on line, and it looks like they're all gone. That makes me a little sad.

Flotsam and Jetsam - US Poverty Hits All-Time Low

At NYPo, Americans are richer than ever — and poverty hits an all-time low, but you won't hear it from the WaPoo, the NYT, PBS, ABC, CBS or NBC. Bill Mitchell @mitchellvii, "Stocks at record highs. GDP at 5.1%. Real incomes at record highs. Poverty at record lows. Food inflation below 20 year average. Factories at 82% capacity. Standard of living best ever. Crime at record lows. Trump approval on the economy - record lows. What am I missing?" Ace, US Poverty Rate Falls to Lowest Level In History, "Well, as long as we've been keeping track of it, anyway. And median (average) household income hit a record high. Wait until you see how the media spins this." I know the dictum is that you can't tell people the economy is good when they don't feel it, but the MSM spend a great deal of time and effort convincing people that the economy is great when Democrats are in control and even more attempting to plant the thought that the economy sucks when Republicans are in charge.

Geiger Capital @Geiger_Capital, "This is 100% accurate. The left has completely moved on from climate change, net-zero, electric car mandates, etc. The climate panic faded and their ideas were all wrong, so for 2028 the new existential threat that needs regulating is AI." Eric S. Raymond @esrtweet. "This is the case against AI doom. Pass it on First we recaptulate standard x-risk argument: we build AI substantially smarter than humans → it becomes an autonomous optimizing agent → its goals are misaligned → instrumental convergence makes it seek power and resist correction → superintelligence lets it acquire decisive strategic advantage → humans lose control permanently. The Return of Flotsam and Jetsam

Yes, I'm back from my Syrupean fishing vacation. I made it home by late in the afternoon Friday, and after putting away the mess, a quick trip to the Drs, Gabby's soccer game, and general fatigue, I didn't get much accomplished yesterday.

It was interesting traveling out of Minneapolis/St. Paul on the morning of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Speaking of which, according to NYPo, AOC spotted laughing next to Mamdani at 9/11 ceremony — as victims’ families weep during reading of names. Hat Hair's Dave Strom calls it Enraging: AOC and Mamdani Laugh It Up at 9/11 Memorial As Names of the Victims Read. Ace, Victory Lap: Communist Jihadi Zohran Mamdani Does "Interfaith" Walk on 9/11, Which Ends at... Islamic Center, "Unbelievable," and Twenty Five Years After 9/11, Most Have Forgotten -- and the Children Who Were Born After the Terrorist Attack are Being Taught That Muslims Were the Victims and Americans the Racist Aggressors, "How on earth was this allowed to happen?" At Twitchy, Abigail Spanberger Gets TORCHED on X for Claiming Americans 'Lost Their Lives' on 9/11. PJM's Vicky Taft has one of her West Coast, Messed Coast™ — Nothing Says 'We Hate America' Quite as Much as UCLA's 9/11 Event. TownHall's Matt Vespa likes how Bill Maher Zeroed in on the Biggest Moral Cowards Post-9/11. It's Exactly Who You Think. "Maher added that the biggest cowards post-9/11 are Democratic Party politicians, whose moral confusion, which has become cancerous over the past quarter century since the attacks, has been laid bare by the Gaza War: a strip of land the Israelis gave back as part of a peace deal, made possible when then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon ditched Likud to form the now-defunct Kadima Party. It was later taken over by Hamas, a terrorist organization, and used to launch attacks on Israel. Israel launched a counterattack after the equivalent of their 9/11, the October 7 attacks, isn’t genocide. And yet, it’s the issue Democrats police their candidates like the Gestapo—they must say it, or at least not bash the terrorists."

Nicole Russell at USA Today, As Texas Senate race tightens, Talarico's mask is slipping. "Newly surfaced comments on capitalism, faith and abortion reveal Texas state Rep. James Talarico is more progressive than his campaign lets on. Voters are starting to notice." Hat Hair's Capt. Ed had Saturday's Final Word. @amuse @amuse, "TEXAS SENATE RACE: Would you be surprised to learn that the architect of James Talarico's political career is a trans man who attended Furman University and got a degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies? Tyler Mitchell, now known as Hyacinth High (they/them/theirs), shaped Talarico's campaigns and ensured they were staffed primarily by LGBTQ folks, with a particular focus on hiring trans staffers. Hyacinth is now Regional Campaigns Director at The Fairness Project. Texas doesn't need someone with Talarico's extreme ideology representing the interests of Texans." Capt. Ed was pretty happy when The Cavalry Arrived: Senate GOP Drops $32 Million Into Texas for Paxton. Hat Hair's Beege Welborn thinks the Dems Got Themselves a Case of the Cray Crays and They Just Can't Seem to Shake the Loons Off. But Driscoll at Insty notes DEMOCRATIC PARTY PULLS SUPPORT FOR NC HOUSE CANDIDATE SHELLY HEADEN: The Calvin Coolidge Project @TheCalvinCooli1, "Report: North Carolina Democrats have withdrawn support for State House candidate Shelly Headen after she called for violence against Republicans and compared herself to Jesus Christ She said: “I think our only hope is an attack on US soil, preferably Alabama, Louisiana where the stupid people live.” She said: “I’ve sacrificed myself just like Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, and Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln and all the people that put themselves out there to sacrifice for our country,” she said. “If a few angry moments on social media are the end, then so be it. MAGA will keep winning if we continue with not standing up for what’s right.”" Tippinsights wonders Sen. Tafoya? Minnesota Polling Shows a Dead Heat. AMAC warns Don’t Buy Democrats’ “Farm Revolt” Narrative, "The media is buzzing about a brewing farmland revolt against Republicans in November. But that narrative has far less basis in reality than Democrats would have Americans believe."

Hat Hair's John Sexton has A San Francisco Squatter Story for the Ages. Variety worries Paramount Leaving California Would Devastate Los Angeles Economy, Leaked Report Finds. From the OC Reg, Orange man gets 30 years for role in $269 million Medi-Cal fraud.

Stacy McCain considers the The Permanent Problem of Liberalism "You see the point of this narrative — the emotional payoff of the melodrama — is that the liberal is always the hero, deserving praise and admiration for his courage in opposing the Republican villain. Once you recognize this, you realize why there is no point arguing with the liberal. He cannot be persuaded by facts or logic, because facts and logic are not the basis of his belief system. And this is why I say that liberalism is a permanent problem. If we could not vanquish liberalism in 70 years, during which time we had such brilliant minds as Buckley advocating for the conservative cause, isn’t it the height of folly to imagine we’ll be able to declare a final victory anytime in the foreseeable future?"

Flotsam and Jetsam - You Can't Rename Lake Ontario Says the LatinX Birthing Person

Chris Martz @ChrisMartzWX "I think that Trump renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America is pointless and stupid. Wanna know what else I think is dumb? The fact left-wingers are triggered about this after they spent the last decade plus renaming sports teams, public schools and universities, streets and highways, food and condiment brands, and redefining half the dictionary altogether. Here’s a list of some in case you forgot: • Washington Redskins -> Commanders • Cleveland Indians -> Guardians • Stanford Indians -> Cardinals • Loudoun County Raiders -> Captains • Edmonton Eskimos -> Elks • Columbus Day -> Indigenous Peoples’ Day • Lee–Jackson Day -> eliminated • Robert E. Lee High School -> John Lewis High • Jefferson Davis Highway -> Richmond Highway • Mount McKinley -> Denali • Fort Bragg -> Fort Liberty • Fort Hood -> Fort Cavazos • Boy Scouts of America -> Scouting America • Aunt Jemima -> Pearl Milling Company • Uncle Ben’s Rice -> Ben’s Original • Eskimo Pie ice cream bars -> Edy’s Pie • Land O’Lakes -> removed the Indian, but kept the land • Illegal alien -> undocumented worker • Hispanic -> Latinx (a term Hispanics did not want and do not use) • Mother -> birthing person • Anchor baby -> child of noncitizens • black -> Black • Breastfeeding -> chest feeding • Inmate / prisoner / convict / felon -> justice-involved person • Ex-con / ex-felon -> returning citizen • “Gender” as a biological fact interchangeable with “sex” to being a social construct • Fat -> plus-sized • Master bedroom -> primary bedroom • Manhole -> utility hole And so on and so on. . ." Nick Arama at RedState, Bill Maher Hilariously Levels Criticism of 'Lake America,' Hoists Liberals With Their Own Petard. Eric Daugherty @EricLDaugh, "LMAO! Breitbart Bus Dig asserts Warsh and Bessent Are Not at Odds Over the Bond Market. Steve Moore at Hat Hair explores the question Is the USA Going Bankrupt? "Thank God, no, we aren't going bust as a nation, despite our gargantuan $40 trillion national debt. The rapid pileup of debt under Republicans and Democrats alike is certainly a disgrace and worrisome. When I came to Washington in the mid-1980s, our debt hit $1 trillion for the first time. It seemed like a tidal wave of red ink. Forty years later, we're at $40 trillion. That's a big and scary number. But our national wealth is roughly $180 trillion. So our debt-to-asset ratio, which has been rising, is still less than 25%, and much lower than at the end of World War II, when the debt hit 40% of wealth." From the Right Scoop, Democrats are attacking Republicans over sky high prices THEIR Big Pharma allies are CAUSING.

Stacy McCain thinks about How You Got Hasan Piker: It Started With Cowardice in the Public School System. At Twitchy, 'So, Like, a Normie D**che': Hasan Piker Gets Demolished ... by His HAIRDRESSER. Rolling Stone @RollingStone, "Rolling Stone names Hasan Piker as one of the most influential creators of 2026. Ignatieff: "In 1934, millions of people are dying in the Soviet experiment. If you had known that, would it have made a difference to you at that time?" Hobsbawm: "Probably not." Ignatieff Pressed Him. Why? Hobsbawm: "Because in a period in which, as you might imagine, mass murder and mass suffering are absolutely universal, the chance of a new world being born in great suffering would still have been worth backing." Then Ignatieff Put a Number on It. Ignatieff: "That the loss of fifteen, twenty million people might have been justified?" Hobsbawm: "Yes." He Bet Twenty Million Dead on a World Revolution..." Josh Howerton @howertonjosh, "Muslims have a plan to make America a Muslim nation. Marxists have a plan to make America a Marxist nation. Secular Progressives have a plan to make America a Secular Progressive nation. Christians seem to always have a plan to keep Christianity from further influencing our nation by discipling people into political apathy (“we don’t get political”) or political ambiguity (“Jesus isn’t a Republican or Democrat, neither Right nor Left” = primary application of gospel to culture) ^^^this has had very predictable results for the last few decades."

Driscoll at Insty also says GOODER AND HARDER, LA: Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass orders cops to stop cracking down on illegal street vendors. Why bother with a business license? MAZE @mazemoore, "This clip perfectly embodies the uselessness of so many of our politicians. Senator Blumenthal (from my home state of Connecticut), holds a press conference on train safety. The origin of that article was Arday reaching out to the journalist to lie to him." Timur Kuran @timurkuran, "The present carving up of the academy is a 19th-century invention, not a sacred settlement. If sociology disappeared, economics and political science would absorb most of its intellectual work. Sociology’s sister disciplines already produce much valuable scholarship on mass mobilization, the family, fertility, discrimination, and the social bases of religion, among its other traditional concerns.
