Flotsam and Jetsam - The TSA Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo

Yesterday, in a voice vote, (meaning the identity of the voters goes unrecorded) the Senate voted on a measure to end the DHS stand off, so they could declare themselves done, and quickly run out of town for Easter and Spring Break. Details seem kind of hard to understand; the proposal did not yield to Democrat's demands on ICE, but didn't satisfy House Republicans, who rejected it out of hand and passed their own competing bill. Meanwhile, President Trump cut the Gordian Knot by directing newly confirmed DHS Sec Mullin to pay TSA agents, without specifying where the funds would be coming from. From NYPo, End to airport misery in sight as Senate approves deal to end DHS shutdown — without Dem immigration demands. Capt. I want to thank our hardworking TSA Agents and also, ICE, for the incredible help they have given us at the Airports. I will not allow the Radical Left Democrats to hold our Country hostage any longer. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump writes, at Truth Social. Question: How is he doing this? Answer: It's not easy! But he's going to do it. Perhaps he means: Go ahead and sue me and at least the workers willbe paid until the courts stop me... if they dare." "One reporter tried to catch Trump with a loaded question about mail-in ballots, noting that he had used one in the recent elections in Florida. The president isn’t a fan of this voting method, but the question was purely foolish. There are concerns about fraud, and this reporter failed miserably trying to get a ‘gotcha’ moment. Trump responded sharply, pointing out the exceptions and emphasizing that he’s the president of the United States, and that’s how he decided to cast his ballot while away, which is within the rules." Tragic to say that because the military are trained to avoid any politically motivated intervention. Ultimately, we will get what we deserve by giving Trump a second chance to destroy our democracy." Musk and DOGE should influence government spending and operations. Look at this, 54 percent. The majority say that he and they should." Atop Da Hill, Why DOGE is and will remain popular, even if its cuts are small.
So far, DOGE claims that is has saved about $65 billion in federal funds. So far, I have seen people make every argument — from “DOGE is revolutionizing the government” on the one side to “These cuts are basically just a rounding error” on the other. What people don’t realize is that both can be true at the same time.

Let’s start with the $65 billion. How much is that? It’s enough to cut a $450 check to every taxpayer every year. That’s actually quite a significant amount of money if you look at it that way.

But let’s take the flipside. We pay more than $900 billion every year just on interest on the government’s $36 trillion debt. In that sense, DOGE naysayers are not wrong when they say the savings constitute a drop in the bucket.

Insty, IS ELON MUSK AN “OFFICER OF THE UNITED STATES?” "Subject matter expert Seth Barrett Tillman responds to a claim by Prof. Katherine Shaw: “Shaw indicated that the test for being an ‘officer of the United States’ is that the purported officer exercises ‘significant power.’ That is entirely wrong.” UPDATE: Prof. Katherine “Kate” Shaw is Chris Hayes’ wife, FYI." So, I mean, the reality is that our elected officials have very, very little power relative to the bureaucracy until DOGE. So DOGE is a threat to the bureaucracy. It's the first threat to the bureaucracy. Normally the bureaucracy eats revolutions for breakfast. This is the first time that they're not, that the revolution might actually succeed. That we could restore power to the people instead of power to the bureaucracy." Said Elon Musk, on the Joe Rogan podcast last week." At Insty, ANDY NGO: Whatever happened to antifa? "Then there’s Elon Musk. Following his takeover of Twitter, now X, in October 2022, many key antifa accounts involved in organizing, recruiting and disseminating propaganda and fundraising were suspended for violating rules against inciting violence. These accounts should have been suspended under the previous regime, but as the Twitter Files revealed, the company had a left-wing political culture and policies were unevenly applied. In November 2022, after I reported on the violent extremists of CrimethInc., an antifa extremist collective that produces guides on why and how to commit violent crimes, Musk suspended their account. Other accounts escaped suspension but chose to de-platform themselves from X. They feared their private messages could be accessed and turned over to law enforcement. Most of them relocated first to Mastodon, and are now at Bluesky, two smaller Twitter alternatives where leftist violence and death threats are tolerated."

Flotsam and Jetsam - All Biden Orders Void Because of Autopen Signatures?

Matt Margolis has high hopes Could a Bombshell Discovery Render All of Biden's Presidential Actions 'Null and Void'? "Remember when House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) revealed his discussion with Biden when Biden couldn't recall signing the executive order halting LNG exports? Now we know why — he probably didn't. The real question is: Who did? Who was running the country while Biden was not all there? Oversight Project @OversightPR, WHOEVER CONTROLLED THE AUTOPEN CONTROLLED THE PRESIDENCY We gathered every document we could find with Biden's signature over the course of his presidency. All used the same autopen signature except for the the announcement that the former President was dropping out of the race last year. Here is the autopen signature." Libs of TikTok @libsoftiktok, "BREAKING: Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey asked the DOJ to investigate whether Biden’s cognitive mental decline allowed unelected officials to make decisions without his knowledge or approval. If that’s the case, Biden’s executive orders, pardons, and other actions, may be unconstitutional and void." Ace, All of Biden's "Laws" and Executive Orders Were Signed by Autopen (Robotic Signature Duplicator), Putting Biden's Entire Presidency in Question, "The headline is wrong: There was one single thing he actually signed, his notice that he was withdrawing from the 2024 race." Everything else was signed by the Biden staffers' Electronic President Substitute." We knew that Biden was not really in control, but we assumed they were at least shoving the paper under his pen for show. I predict nothing will happen because Biden is a Democrat.

Stacy McCain asks, rhetorically, Why Has the ‘Valuable Resource’ Known as 538 Been Summarily Discarded? "Perhaps a better metric of FiveThirtyEight’s value would be the fact that ABC News didn’t sell the site — for which their parent company paid a pretty penny, years ago — but rather shut it down. Had there been any market value to the site, why weren’t there any other media operations offering cash to acquire it from ABC News? The obvious answer is that FiveThirtyEight was always a money-losing operation, first for the New York Times, and then under Disney ownership, first at ESPN and then at ABC News. The salaries of the staff always exceeded whatever revenue was generated by FiveThirtyEight. Nate Silver goes on to say that there is a “bright future” for the kind of “data journalism” that FiveThirtyEight did, by which I suppose he means that there’s always a market for predicting elections wrong, so long as your error favors Democrats."
