This week's Rule 5: Maxim: MEET FORMER ‘MISS EARTH’ ANNA-LISA CHRISTIANE

It’s no surprise that a woman like Anna-Lisa Christiane would one day find herself strutting runways in New York and Paris, but addressing the U.N.? At the age of 19? Didn’t seem like it was in the cards. And yet there she was in Austria discussing climate change with an august body of world diplomats.

“If I could speak at the U.N. at 19, if I could travel to Austria or Thailand alone at this age and have such a great time, what else can I do?” she asks, reflecting on a transformative experience that came as a result of her winning the title of Miss Earth 2015, a beauty pageant that advocates for environmental awareness, conservation and social responsibility.

  

“I’ve always been confident, I’m not insecure about myself. But it was a shock. But I was lucky to have this person come in,” she says, looking back on a pivotal point in her life. “I’m from a small island. How can I model? It was such a wild concept for me. When I was in high school I always thought I had to escape to America to become an actress or a model. But I never thought it could start in New Zealand.”

Show business seems like her obvious next step, following a racy single released on Spotify. Like her music career, her film career is still in its nascent stages. On her first audition she landed the titular role of Yehenara in a 2021 movie called Heroine Yehenara, in which she plays a concubine who rises to power in 19th-century China.

New Zealand: A Nice Place Except for All the Da*n Vampires

Outbreak of female, vampire-like attackers in New Zealand

A number of people have been injured during a series of vampire-like biting attacks on New Zealand’s North Island.

Over the past two days, a woman was accused of biting a man’s neck so hard, her teeth cut through an artery, while another woman was arrested after allegedly chomping on a woman’s ear.

“It was a fight between three females and during the fight one of the females has bitten another one’s ear and drawn blood. She hasn’t bitten it off, but quite badly so she needed some medical attention,” a Hawke’s Bay District Command Centre spokesman said of the first incident.

A few hours later, police were called to a separate biting attack at a pub in Napier, New Zealand. Officers said a woman became involved in a brawl at The Thirsty Whale and bit a man on the neck.

The man lost so much blood, he was taken to a hospital in serious condition, the Hawke’s Bay District Command Centre spokesman said.

“She obviously got the right spot.”

Thirsty Whale bar owner Chris Sullivan said the fight took place in the early hours of Sunday. “We’ve never seen these people before, they’re certainly not locals,” he said.

 That's very suspicious. . .

“It’s a very nice area. We’re a restaurant, we do have a dance floor on a Saturday night, but we have nice people … people having a great time. But a couple that night clearly didn’t.”

Earlier in the week, another person was bitten during a family violence incident.

“It is a little bit weird,” the police spokesman said.
