Minnesota Star Trib, ICE agents visit Brooklyn Park coffee shop, arrest cook after ruse to get him outside

An Ecuadorian man was arrested Friday at a coffee shop in Brooklyn Park after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents summoned him to the parking lot in a ruse to get him outside. The man was a cook at Crumbs & Coffee on Zane Avenue N.; his employer didn’t want to reveal his name.

Crumbs & Coffee co-owner Charles Spies said the man was arrested Friday morning between 10 and 11 a.m. after ICE agents visited the coffee shop, pretended to be customers and hung out for an hour. After another agent arrived, they claimed to have hit a car in the parking lot and summoned the workers outside. The man was suddenly handcuffed and taken away.

2025 has been a very bad year for climate cultists, but a great year for those who value personal freedom and efficient, affordable energy.

First, President Donald Trump declared victory over the climate hoax industry. The New York Times declared defeat in what it termed the “Information War”, but which I term “victory of real science over political narrative”.

Now, one of the papers used by climate cultists in academia has been retracted after serious data flaws were exposed.

In April 2024, the prestigious journal Nature released a study finding that climate change would cause far more economic damage by the end of the century than previous estimates had suggested. The conclusion grabbed headlines and citations around the world, and was incorporated in risk management scenarios used by central banks.

On Wednesday, Nature retracted it, adding to the debate on the extent of climate change’s toll on society.

The decision came after a team of economists noticed problems with the data for one country, Uzbekistan, that significantly skewed the results. If Uzbekistan were excluded, they found, the damages would look similar to earlier research. Instead of a 62 percent decline in economic output by 2100 in a world where carbon emissions continue unabated, global output would be reduced by 23 percent.

I question the whole idea of predicting the impacts of "climate change" on the economy many years in the future. As Yogi Berra said "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future".

It’s essential to note that it’s not an actual plug. The website notes that the item, that’s available in “limited quantities,” is listed as “a novelty USB device intended for data storage only.”

The reason for the butt plug-inspired USBs seemingly comes from Allen’s song “Pussy Palace,” specifically the lyrics, “Duane Reade bag with the handles tied/ Sex toys, butt plugs, lube inside,” which the world believes to be in reference to her ex-husband, Stranger Things star David Harbour, and his alleged secret stash.

TrashPanda reports Pop Star Sabrina Carpenter Gets Trolled Hard After Crying About ICE Using Her Song

A dispute unfolded this week between the White House and pop singer Sabrina Carpenter after she publicly objected to the Trump administration’s use of her music in a video promoting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The video, which featured Carpenter’s song “Juno” set over footage of ICE raids, included a caption referencing her lyrics: “Have you ever tried this one? Bye-Bye,” followed by emoji.

Carpenter reacted online, calling the use of her music “evil and disgusting” and writing on X, “Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”

Common sense dictates that she is correct.

As predicted, a dusting of snow arrived late last night/early this morning. An almost totally useless amount, not even thick enough to scrape up for a snowball fight, although Gabi and Corwin might get in some runs on a plastic sled if they go out soon. Although the air temperature finally made it below 32 in the last hour, the ground is probably still warm enough to melt it soon except in deep shade, of which we have little now that the leaves are mostly out of the trees. The air temp is supposed to linger near 30 all day, then plunge to 20 overnight. 

So, today's new news is shootings. There was a mass shooting at Brown University in RI yesterday, leaving 2 dead and 9 wounded that dominated the news, without saying very much. Despite 800 cameras on the campus, only 1 was shown yesterday, a black clad suspect walking calmly away. A suspect has been detained, but no details released. In Australia, another mass shooting at a Jewish festival killed 11 and wounded many more. One of two shooters, detained at the scene by a bystander, was named Naveed Akram. Overcast, 44 F and with a southern breeze that doesn't reach the beach thanks to the cliffs. It's supposed to be 20 F tomorrow, and a bit snowy. 

The high tide was pretty low, and there was lots of stuff to look through:

A bit of a heart breaker, a large Snaggletooth lower snapped off. I will console myself with the thought that it was bite damage. What the heck could it bite to break a tooth like that!

The sea ducks are back for the winter. I'm pretty sure they were Buffleheads, but my phone camera can't reach far enough to be sure.

 From the Free Bacon, Wes Moore Won a Key White House Post Claiming He Was 'Touted as a Foremost Expert' on Radical Islam and Was Studying for an Oxford PhD—But His Thesis Is 'Missing' and There's No Evidence He Was Ever a Doctoral Student

Maryland governor Wes Moore, now considered a serious prospect for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, got his big break in 2006. Fresh off a one-year deployment to Afghanistan, President George W. Bush awarded Moore, then 27, a White House fellowship, a prestigious, year-long internship during which he served as a special assistant to then-secretary of state Condoleezza Rice. It put Moore on the path to ultimately becoming Maryland's governor, and he won the fellowship—in the turbulent years after 9/11—claiming to be a "foremost expert" on radical Islam thanks to his academic work at Oxford University.

"As a Rhodes Scholar, I took advantage of the opportunity and examined radical Islam in the Western Hemisphere," Moore wrote in his application to serve as a White House fellow, indicating that he had graduated from Oxford in 2003 with a Master of Letters, or MLitt, in international relations. "I completed my degree with honors and my research has led me to be touted as one of the foremost experts on the threat." The White House parroted the claim in a press release announcing the 2006 fellowship class, borrowing from Moore's application to note that his Oxford thesis, which it said was titled The Rise and Ramifications of Radical Islam in the Western Hemisphere, had "earned him praise as one of the foremost experts on the topic."

That a 27-year-old could claim to be a "foremost expert" on the Islamic threat based on a year at an American military base in Afghanistan and two years at Oxford could be excused away as an ambitious young man's puffery. But on close examination, Moore's claims of expertise and of being a serious scholar completely unravel, as do his claims, also on his White House fellowship application, that he was working toward an Oxford doctorate.

The problems start with confusion—which neither Moore's staff nor Oxford's registrars were willing or able to clear up—about when Moore completed his studies, when he received his degree, whether he submitted his thesis, and what the title of the work was.

In his White House fellowship application—which is public record—Moore wrote that he graduated from Oxford in 2003. But in the résumé attached to that application, Moore reported a different graduation date: June 2004.

Asked to reconcile the two dates, a spokesman for the governor didn't provide a photograph of Moore's degree, but rather, a "degree confirmation," generated last week by Oxford's registrar's office, indicating Moore completed his graduate studies as a full-time student and "has been awarded the degree," but has not yet been issued a formal certificate. The "degree confirmation" generated by Oxford gives another contradictory date, showing that Moore completed his full-time graduate studies in November of 2005, a full four years after he began his Oxford studies, though a master's degree typically takes two years to earn.

According to Moore, by November 2005, the month when Oxford now says Moore completed his master's studies, he was serving in the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan. He also says he began working as an investment banker at Deutsche Bank in London in March 2004.

That's just the beginning of the peculiarities and inconsistencies surrounding Moore's graduate studies, which a spokesman for the governor, Ammar Moussa, dismissed—after several off-the-record conversations—by saying the Washington Free Beacon is not "engaged in journalism" and is "doing what they always do: manufacturing doubt about the accomplishments of a Black veteran, Rhodes Scholar, and public servant because it fits their narrative." . . .

 Bay Journal, Chesapeake Bay leaders approve cleanup plan they call ‘achievable’

Leaders of the Chesapeake Bay cleanup approved major revisions Dec. 2 to the pact that has guided the effort for more than a decade, vowing speedier results despite uncertainty over federal funding.

“We are impatient,” said Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, a Democrat and the outgoing chair of the Chesapeake Executive Council. “We want this to be the era of yes and now.”

The reworked Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement extends deadlines for cleanup goals to 2040, 57 years after the first agreement was signed in 1983. The latest action comes after earlier versions of the agreement— inked in 1987, 2000 and 2014 — fell short of achieving the central goal of significantly reducing nutrient and sediment pollution.

While I'm unlikely to be around to collect, I'm willing to put $1000 in escrow betting that 2040 will roll around, and a large number of the cleanup goals will be unmet.  They don't really want to actually get there, they'd have to dismantle an enormous bureaucracy devoted to pretending to solve the Bay's problems.

They always have two pictures: the first has the subject in their house wearing a sweater and looking out a closed window. This creates the impression that they are hiding from a mob and just want to be left alone, and the NYT will run this pic regardless of whether the subject started the fight in the first place. The second picture has the subject walking in a park or a garden looking pensive, as if to suggest that they will bravely push through their fear and ultimately triumph over the bad guys."
