Flotsam and Jetsam - Murder in Minnesota - Liberals Protest Army March

Early Saturday morning, a lone gunman, disguised as a police officer, driving a vehicle made to look like a police car, gained entry to the house of Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman, a Democrat, and his wife, and shot them (both are expected to survive). Police called to the scene recalled that another state official State Rep. Melissa Hortman, a Democrat, was nearby and proactively went to her house, where they found the gunman exiting the house and exchange gunfire with him, with the Hortman's dead inside. The perpetrator escaped on foot, leaving behind his faux-police car, with a hit list of politicians from both parties, some "No Kings" fliers, and an as yet unrevealed manifesto. Investigation showed the "alleged" shooter to be Vance Luther Boelter, who had been appointed to Governor’s Workforce Development Board by Governor (later VP candidate) Tim Walz. As of now, he has not been apprehended. Stacy McCain, ‘Politically Motivated Assassination’ Targets Two Minnesota Democrats UPDATE: Suspect Identified, Had ‘Manifesto’ — ‘No Kings’ Motive? UPDATE: ‘False Flag’? It’s So Confusing! "It looks like maybe I jumped the gun a bit here, despite my desire to be cautious about such things. The shooter’s “manifesto” allegedly also listed abortion providers as targets, and some are suggesting that Boelter may be a right-wing extremist, so that the “No Kings” flyers were part of a “false flag” deception. At this point, however, we can’t be certain of his motive. It’s entirely possible he just slipped a cog and went nuts and, as you know, Crazy People Are Dangerous." I suppose it's possible that Tim Walz appointed a right-wing nut to a state board, but it kind of strains credulity. Collin Rugg@CollinRugg "BREAKING: Manhunt is underway after Minnesota Sen. John Hoffman and Rep. Melissa Hortman were shot overnight. Both lawmakers and their spouses have reportedly been shot. A shelter-in-place alert was sent out at 5:30 am for a three-mile radius around the Edinburgh Golf Course in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. . . . Margot Cleveland @ProfMJCleveland "Can we now acknowledge why secret service, FBI, and other security personal protecting public officials can't just say "well, okay then," when someone screams they're a Senator?"

Yesterday, of course was the day for dueling demonstrations, a demonstration of American might and patriotism, as the US Army held a parade in Washington DC for its 250th birthday, and Trump haters held "No Kings" demonstrations in cities around the country (including a little one in our local Prince Frederick, which Georgia encountered breaking up when she went shopping yesterday morning). From the Balmer Sun, ‘No Kings’ protests erupt across Maryland, nationwide. John Sexton at Hat Hair, 'No Kings' Protests Around the Country (Update). At Insty, NO KINGS, JUST COMMISSARS? I report from “No Kings” Boston. "So I attended the “No Kings” rally in Boston earlier today. It looked more like a repurposed Pride rally than an anti-Trump rally, really, and that’s because it was: Boston’s Pride parade got repurposed into the “No Kings but Drag Kings” parade. This was smart in terms of boosting the crowd size — there were a lot more people present than attended the rather pallid anti-Elon protest I attended in Boston a few months ago, which drew numbers in the dozens. This event definitely drew thousands. But while there was plenty of anti-Trump stuff, I’m not sure there was any more than a regular Pride parade would have featured. There did seem to be more commie stuff than usual, though, so that’s something." Harmeet K. Dhillon @HarmeetKDhillon "Hey everyone: “No Kings” day is July 4. Pass it on!" It should be George Washington's birthday, since he declined the kingship offered to him. Sundance notices CBS News Promotes Merchandise for “No Kings” Protests.
