“The Sopranos” actress Drea de Matteo claimed Monday on Fox News that Hollywood is full of “quiet” Trump supporters, questioning if the actors throwing their weight behind President Joe Biden are being paid to do so.

Matteo appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime” to discuss the recent lineup of Hollywood stars that have come forward to speak about their support of Biden in this upcoming election. After playing a montage of the actors, Fox host Jesse Watters asked the actress if there were supporters of former President Donald Trump in the Democratic stronghold of the entertainment industry. 

“Hello there, first of all. And I think there is a lot of them. I think there are a lot of — that was a hard intro to watch. I’m sorry,” Matteo laughed.

“Was it Jack Black’s legs?” Watters teased.

“No, it’s the Italian, man. We’re talking about Fauci, we’re talking about De Niro. I am mortified right now by my people. I don’t know understand what we’re doing here. Anyhow, yes. There are a lot of quiet Trump supporters, there are a lot of Kennedy supporters. And wow, I wonder how much the actors got paid to endorse Biden at this point. I’m curious, because that seems — I wonder if De Niro got paid a locations fee because he had to travel to the courtroom to do that,” Matteo said.

Sources even say that she’s been talking with UTA, arguably Tinseltown’s most powerful firm. But a rep at UTA told us that is “untrue.”

Still, prepare for a book (“Great Expectorations”?), a movie (“Black Hawk … Down”?), an album (“Blame It On The Loogie” by her band, Was Snot Was?) and a live experience (The Hawk Tour?) in the near future. 

The phlegm fatale — who got her onomatopoeic nickname because of her slippery suggestion, but has since been identified as Hailey Welch — has already finagled her own merch deal with Tennessee company Fathead Threads. It’s selling signed, embroidered “Hawk Tuah” hats for $43.70.

Minnesota county board candidate who allegedly threw live tarantula at tenant ischarged with assault

A candidate for the Hennepin County Board in Minnesota was arrested on assault charges after she was accused of throwing a live tarantula at her tenant. Marisa Simonetti, who is running for a seat on the county board, told NBC News on Thursday that the incident stemmed from local attorney Jackie Vasquez's alleged refusal to leave her property.

Simonetti said that she had rented Vasquez a room in her five-bedroom house through Airbnb but that after a series of incidents, Simonetti canceled the reservation.

"She was in my house less than two weeks before she started sending me double-, triple-paragraph long texts and yelling at people on the phone at 10:30 at night for an hour," said Simonetti, who lives in the home with her son. "I’m just sitting up here ... thinking this is not going to go well."  Simonetti accused Vasquez of threatening to ruin her campaign and sending "paragraph-long threatening messages" through her campaign website.

Jorō spiders were spotted in Maryland more than a dozen times last summer, the first major sighting in the area since the invasive species arrived in the U.S. from Asia in the early 2010s. And they could be coming back.

Scientists believe it’s possible the roughly 4-inch, yellow and blue arachnid reappears this summer. The spiders might look intimidating, but researchers say they pose no known threat to humans or pets. Here are five things to know about the Jorō spider.
 
Although the spiders originally came to Georgia from Asia, likely on international shipping cargo, according to a 2015 study from researchers at the University of Georgia, the species is known for its ability to travel well by air.

The Jorō can traverse ranges spanning at least 120,000 square kilometers, according to a 2023 study conducted by a group of researchers at multiple universities. They travel through the air along strands of silk, riding the current of the wind when they are babies and aim to locate a resource-rich home.

It’s in their nature to migrate away from areas scarce in food and toward regions flush with pests, said Michael Raupp a professor with the University of Maryland’s Department of Entomology.

“We’ve got lots of stinkbugs; we got spotted lantern flies, which [the Jorō spider] knew from Asia, where they evolved, so why not come to Maryland? Lots of good food up here,” Raupp said. “Heaven help us if they learn to eat blue crabs — only kidding.”

 Now, that would be impressive!

Jorō spiders primarily make their homes around buildings and on plants.

“These spiders are not going to come in people’s houses,” Raupp said.

The University of Georgia study found that the spiders mostly appeared in webs attached to the outsides of houses, near porch lights, on wooden decks and around shrubs and bushes near houses.

Although they are venomous, their fangs are believed to be too small to pierce skin, Raupp said, citing University of Georgia scientist Richard Hoebeke. Another report from Pennsylvania State University said the spiders are reluctant to bite, and if they do, the venom is weak and not medically significant.

This makes their primary impact as a consumer of pests in their massive webs.

“These are very timid spiders,” Raupp said. “They’re docile, and they’re highly beneficial.”

So, no, these are not the next great invasive threat, and in fact, they may help make a dent in some of the invasive insect species we've acquired. 

The look rather similar to the Yellow Garden Spider which is a fairly common species widespread in the US and nearly as big, around 3 inches max.  I suspect the Joro might prove to be stiff competition.

Georgia, Skye and I walked to the beach today, and along the way we spotted this in the roadside:  Mile-a-Minute:

Persicaria perfoliata is a species of flowering plant in the buckwheat family. Common names include mile-a-minute, devil's tail, giant climbing tearthumb, and Asiatic tearthumb. It is a trailing herbaceous annual vine with barbed stems and triangular leaves. It is native to most of temperate and tropical eastern Asia, occurring from eastern Russia and Japan in the north, and the range extending to the Philippines and India in the south. P. perfoliata is an aggressive, highly invasive weed. 

Persicaria perfoliata has a reddish stem that is armed with downward pointing hooks or barbs which are also present on the underside of the leaf blades. The light green leaves are shaped like an equilateral (equal-sided) triangle and alternate along the narrow, delicate stems. Distinctive circular, cup-shaped leafy structures, called ocreass, surround the stem at intervals. Flower buds, and later flowers and fruits, emerge from within the ocreas. Flowers are small, white and generally inconspicuous. The edible fruits are attractive, metallic blue and segmented, each segment containing a single glossy, black or reddish-black seed.

Persicaria perfoliata is an edible species. Its tender leaves and shoots can be eaten raw or cooked as a salad green or vegetable and its fruit is sweet and can be eaten fresh.
