Wow! Just Wow!

Ann Alhouse is a liberal/libertarian Law Professor and blogger, who voted for Obama in 2008 (see her rationale embedded below), and has this to say about the growing NSA phone scandal:
I suspect it was someone who wanted to distract us from the IRS scandal (and other scandals) so that the scandal of the moment would be one that's about Bush. I supported Bush's war on terror and resisted the "committed anti-antiterror partisan[s]." It became very important to fight terrorism after 9/11, and one reason I decided to vote for Barack Obama in 2008 was that I thought it would be helpful for Democrats to be put in a position where they would need to endorse things Bush chose to do to protect us from terrorist attacks.
So the purpose of leaking the phone record revelations was to distract from the IRS scandal?  Its seems more like an amplification of the central complaint behind the IRS scandal, the increasingly intrusive government being willing to force citizens to reveal all their secrets, needed or not, and then to be able to potentially use them in political attacks.  Do you trust the NSA not to leak potentially political damaging information on opponents to Obama?  Yes?  A few months ago you might have said the same thing about the IRS.

Lindsey Vonn Drug Tested at Fashion Show

How weird is that?  Even though she's in the middle of rehab, it's summer, and she's not skiing professionally, they can just come up to her at "random" and demand she pee in their cup?  Do they spin a wheel every morning to find out which athlete to harass?

Lindsey Vonn had to undergo a mandatory drug test with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) while in a couture gown at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards.

Tiger Woods’ new girlfriend Vonn, who is training for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, accompanied designer Cynthia Rowley to the glitzy awards ceremony at Lincoln Center Monday night.
Hat tip to Wombat-Socho, who tipped me to this in "Live at 5" this morning.

Sources exclusively tell Page Six that Rowley and the skier, wearing a stunning, custom-made white gown from the designer, were sitting in Alice Tully Hall among fashion’s elite — including honorees Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Anna Wintour and Michael Kors — when Vonn got a call on her cellphone from the USADA. The organization is recognized by the U.S. Congress the official anti-doping agency for Olympic, Pan American and Paralympic sport in the United States.
So how many USADA drug testers does it take to watch a hot athelete, and sometimes model pee in a cup?
Several drug testers were waiting outside Lincoln Center, and told Vonn they needed access to the event to perform a drug test immediately. Rowley met the USADA group outside and ushered them into the hall.

A source told us: “Lindsay met the USADA at the bathroom. Cynthia stood guard outside, and no one was allowed to enter the bathroom. They were in there for about five minutes.”
I'm sure glad they're on the job, protecting me from athletes who might cheat and use performance enhancing drugs, like caffeine and tylenol.

We’re told that amidst the glamorous setting, the USADA team made Vonn “pee in a cup.”

“Here Lindsey is in this custom-made gown, feeling like Cinderella, and she has to get up and do a drug test,” sniffed one source.

But Vonn didn’t seem rattled by it, telling us afterwards: “We’re having a great time and [Rowley] did a great job with the dress.”

She’s recovering from a serious knee injury and told us her rehab regimen is going well. “I get to start jumping and running soon, so that’s exciting,” she said.
At least the government isn't monitoring all her phone calls... Oh wait!
