Another man-eating palm tree thwarted, Tree trimmer pulled from top of palm tree in extremely critical condition,
Phoenix fire department says
A man is in extremely critical condition after he was rescued from the top of a palm tree in west Phoenix by fire crews Saturday morning, according to authorities. The Phoenix Fire Department responded to 67th Avenue and Thomas Road after reports of the incident came in at 9:30 a.m.
The fire department said the 40-year-old man was working as a tree trimmer and had climbed up the 50-foot-tall palm tree when the incident happened. Two other employees were with him at the time.
Crews used an aerial ladder and platform to get to the man. A chainsaw was used to cut away some of the dried fronds on the palm. After working for several minutes, the firefighters were able to get to the man, who was near the trunk of the tree.
