A Tuesday Tune - Devil Like You

They had me at Death Metal Bluegrass:

From the misty, pine-covered hills of the Pacific Northwest hail the Bridge City Sinners, who span the continuum from prohibition era jazz to Appalachian death folk. This traditional string band line up bends the meaning of the word genre, Playing festivals from Punk Rock Bowling, to Muddy Roots, to Oregon’s Bluegrass String Summit. They started their journey by busking on sidewalks across the country and now this supergroup of musicians find themselves on the national tour circuit. The Sinners still hold true to the DIY mentality of putting albums out on a self made record label, Flail Records. They recently hit #70 on the Billboard charts, top current album sales, for the week of September 4th 2021 for their album “Unholy Hymns”.

How Bridge City Sinners’ Libby Lux Molded Her Spite Into Songs
My bass player, Scott, actually used to play bass with that same ex who started my vengeful journey, but I met everyone else through Craigslist. I was in a really unfulfilling relationship, working a really unfulfilling job, and I was pretty much ready to call it quits. I was horribly depressed and didn’t know which way to turn, so I tried to think about the things that used to make me happy, and music was something that made me happy. It made me feel like me again.

That instrument she plays is an electric ukulele fitted with a resonator, like a banjo. Call it a banjalele.

I asked myself, “How can I get back to that?” I started looking on Craigslist and found an ad put out by a girl who used to play washboard with us at the very beginning when we were just a busking band. The ad said that they were in their 20s, they liked this kind of music, and that they wanted to look for more people to play music with them.

The Wombat has Rule 5 Sunday: Country Girl in Carhartts up on time and under budget.
