Palm Sunday

 With Angelina Dimova.

Two of Weymouth seafront's largest palm trees are set to be replaced with two smaller trees due to health and safety concerns. Councillors have agreed to pay £10,000 to replace two trees either side of the entrance to New Street as they have grown too big and are causing damage to the promenade.

One of the trees is also pushing out towards the Esplanade and is at risk of damaging the road. These trees will be replaced with two smaller palm trees, known as cabbage palms.

In total, nine trees were planted along the seafront in 2012 ahead of the Olympics and councillors believe the 'iconic' and well-loved' trees should remain a permanent fixture in the resort.
Palm trees in jolly olde England? Whoda thunk?
