I Really Want to Believe, But ...

... I'm pretty sure this is bullshit. At NYPo, ‘Snake the Bigfoot Hunter’ claims he unearthed scientific proof of Sasquatch — and DNA shows it’s part human.

A Bigfoot hunter who claimed to have found the legendary creature’s corpse now says he has scientific proof the remains are a real-life Sasquatch — and its DNA is part human.

Charles Stuart, who bills himself as “Snake the Bigfoot Hunter,” made highly disputed claims in 2024 that he found the decomposing remains of an 8-foot, 300-pound Sasquatch in upstate New York’s Adirondack mountains.

Now he claims he enlisted Cornell University to conduct a DNA test and found the creature is a mixture of Neanderthal and human, according to the hunter’s website.

“After doing a DNA test — we found that this is 58.5% Neanderthal — and this 41.5% remaining, that is human,” Stuart told Local 4 Detroit on Sunday.

“What we have is a Neanderthal-human hybrid — and that neanderthal side that has been evolving over the millennia has remained very aggressive,” Stuart said about Dack, which is what he named the supposed corpse.

I really do root for Bigfoot, just to humble scientists who claim it's not possible. But I really doubt this until Cornell scientists come forward to confirm they were given good samples, and this is what they found, I just can't believe it's her.

Oregon, My Oregon

NYSun, Secession-Minded Voters in Oregon Upend State’s Gubernatorial Race. "A gubernatorial race that had leaned Democratic all summer is now considered a toss-up, and Oregon could elect its first GOP governor since 1982."

Oregon has, for years, been a mecca for political malcontents, everyone from anarchists to white supremacists to the rioters who carved out a “free protest zone” in downtown Portland and battled with police almost nightly during the summer of 2020’s social unrest.

While Portland has often dominated local, state, and national headlines for its political strife and disorder, the rural parts of the state have also seen no small measure of political alienation.

This alienation has fueled a growing movement among people who live on the eastern fringes of the state that want to break away from Oregon and become part of their more conservative neighbor, Idaho.

A spokesman for the Greater Idaho movement, as it is known, Matt McCaw, tells the Sun that he thinks the movement has mobilized many of Oregon’s more conservative voters in the eastern part of the state.

“People on the east side of the state see things very differently than people on the west side,” he said. “They make their living in a different way and see politics differently.”

To him, Oregon’s recent decriminalization of drugs — including heroin and cocaine — is indicative of the cultural divide driving the Greater Idaho movement.

So far, nine counties have voted in favor of looking into how exactly they would join Idaho, and another two counties are set to have referendums on the topic this November.

Mr. McCaw said that the movement is making some 400,000 eastern Oregonians more enthusiastic about politics, which is likely bad news for Ms. Kotek, given the state of the race.

With the Democratic and Republican nominees in a dead heat, the more conservative Greater Idaho vote could be in the unusual situation of playing kingmaker in the gubernatorial race of a state that they are trying to leave.

While I'm not betting on Republicans winning the Oregon governorship, or the 11 counties succeeding in seceding, I'm certainly rooting that way. Who know, maybe Sasquatch will cast the deciding votes.

Did "Climate Change" Chase Bigfoot from Asia to America?

By way of Watts Up With That, an article from International Business Times which suggests that Bigfoot is the old world Gigantophithicus which migrated across from Asia during the last Ice Ages:

The biggest ape to roam the Earth went extinct 100,000 years ago because the species was not able to adapt to just consuming savannah grass after climate change hit its favoured diet of forest fruit, according to scientists. Weighing five times as much as an adult man and standing up to three metres tall, Gigantopithecus, the closest nature ever came to producing a real King Kong, was still not invincible enough to survive drastic climate changes.

The species lived in semi-tropical forests in southern China and mainland Southeast Asia. Scientists say that the Gigantopithecus was the closest modern cousin of orangutans. Experts around the world did not know why the animal went extinct. In fact, when fossils were discovered in the 1930s, the Gigantopithecus’ teeth were sold as dragon’s teeth in Hong Kong.

Almost nothing was known about the animal’s anatomical shape or habit until German scientists believe that they have made a breakthrough after conducting new studies on the enamel of teeth found in Thailand and China. Hervé Bocherens, professor at the Centre for Human Evolution and Palaeoenvironment (HEP) at the University of Tübingen, said that the giant was a strict vegetarian that lived in the forests. As the Earth got struck by a massive ice age during the Pleistocene Epoch 2.6 million to 12,000 years ago, the Gigantopithecus’ diet dwindled.
. . .
However, other apes and early humans in Africa survived the transition by switching their diets to eat the leaves, roots and grass grown in their new environment, Phys.org reports. The Gigantopethicus lacked the physiological ability and ecological flexibility to resist stress and food shortage. Other experts, most notably Grover Krantz, suggested that the Gigantopithecus may have survived and migrated from Asia over the Bering straits.
Climate change, is there nothing it can't explain?

It's a far cry from the Chinese semi-tropical forests to the tundra habitat of Beringia, but other groups of organisms made the adaption. Elephants gave rise to Mammoths and Mastodons, which crossed the land bridge one way or another, so it's not out of the question.

I confess to not believing in Bigfoot, but I'd love to be proved wrong.
