Mike Cantrell at PJM, Proposed Oregon Bill on Care for Infants Born After Abortions Fails to Advance.
If you want to know just how evil left-wing ideology really is, just look at how Democrats treat babies in this country. For example, Democrats in Oregon blocked a piece of legislation that required medical professionals to provide care to babies born alive after abortions. In other words, if a child survives an attempted abortion in the womb, Democrats would leave that child to die from neglect and lack of care.
This is sick and evil. What greater evidence better authenticates the Christian teaching of humanity’s fallen nature? When lawmakers refuse to protect the most vulnerable citizens of this country—citizens the Creator made in His glorious image—they assault that Creator and participate in one of the most heinous forms of murder. By blocking this bill, Democrats show their true savage, demonic natures. You cannot be a Christian or a Catholic and remain a true Democrat. You do not have to become a Republican, but the ideals of the left run anti-Christian to the core.
“Pro-abortion lawmakers in the Oregon Senate voted against bringing a bill to the Senate floor Thursday that would require Oregon medical professionals to provide the same standards of care to babies born alive during failed abortions as newborns delivered under usual circumstances,” said Oregon Right to Life Communications Director Ashley Sadler.
Every single Democrat—18 of them—voted to shoot down SB 1554, the “Born Alive Infants Protection Act,” while every Republican voted in favor of it. If any of my left-wing friends or family members have ever wondered why I am a Republican, here is your answer. As someone who believes in Christ and seeks to obey the moral law of God, I cannot align myself with a political party that shows so little love and compassion for pre-born children.
Abortion isn't really an issue that drives me, but I do think the Supreme Court lucked into a reasonable policy early on. Easy abortion in the first trimester, regulated abortion in the second trimester, and no abortions except true emergencies in the third trimester. This would largely obviate the need for this law. OTH, I don't really think it was the Courts role to dictate that policy.
Also, from John Sexton at Hat Hair, Oregon Universities Are Struggling, Portland State Needs to Cut Millions.
University enrollment has been declining over the past decade and that seems to be particularly acute in Oregon where several different universities are struggling with big budget gaps. For instance, this reports was published last week.Southern Oregon University could receive $15 million from the state under an end-of-session budget bill aimed at stabilizing the Ashland campus as it faces its third financial crisis in four years...Portland State University is also in serious trouble. It's facing a $35 million budget shortfall over the next two years and is now considering a process called retrenchment which would make significant cuts to as many as 19 departments.
SOU recently announced that it will drop below its approved cash threshold of $12.68 million this year. By the end of February 2027, the university projects it won’t have enough cash to make payroll. Leadership anticipates a shortfall of more than $14 million by June 2027.
When you're losing your customer base, you need to cut costs, which for a University, is largely staff. I would advise cutting unneeded administrators, which might actually improve the college experience, and encourage more students, but I'm going to guess that's a last resort.
