Flotsam and Jetsam - The Post Halloween Candy Binge

Matt Vespa at TownHall sees Trump Did It Again With This Year's Halloween Trick-or-Treaters. Libs, of course, were triggered. Anything that makes Trump seem normal is anathema. Brilyn Hollyhand @BrilynHollyhand, "I just checked CNN, MSNBC, and NBC. They're not covering this. First Lady Melania Trump just comforted a little girl in tears frightened by Halloween decorations. Can you imagine how much press this would've gotten if it was Michelle? Melania >" Matt Margolis at PJM asserts JD Vance's Halloween Costume Truly Won the Internet. From Twitchy, Trigger Treat: Harry Sisson Cries in His Soy Milk Over JD Vance’s Halloween Costume and Video.

It was a very quiet Halloween for us, after a big build up. Gabby went trick-or-treating with Corwin, dressed as the Warden from Minecraft, and people actually recognized the costume (not me!), and made a decent haul too. We had no trick-or-treaters, not one. I guess we'll just have to eat the leftover candy ourselves.

Althouse finds "Remember, Republicans, regardless of the Schumer Shutdown, the Democrats will terminate the Filibuster the first chance they get." ""They will Pack the Supreme Court, pick up two States, and add at least 8 Electoral Votes. Their two objectors are gone!!! Don’t be WEAK AND STUPID. FIGHT,FIGHT, FIGHT! WIN, WIN, WIN! We will immediately END the Extortionist Shutdown, get ALL of our agenda passed, and make life so good for Americans that these DERANGED DEMOCRAT politicians will never again have the chance to DESTROY AMERICA! Republicans, you will rue the day that you didn’t TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!!! BE TOUGH, BE SMART, AND WIN!!! This is much bigger than the Shutdown, this is the survival of our Country!" Writes Trump, at Truth Social." Probably. Sundance at CTH, President Trump Asks Senate Republicans to End Filibuster and Extend CR to Reopen Government. A video at Hat Hair notes Democrats Keep Government Shut Down as Tension Arise. Armstrong Williams at TownHall calls it The Shutdown We Need. LifeZette hears Elon Tells Rogan the Real Reason Democrats are Prolonging the Government Shutdown: Benny Johnson @bennyjohnson, "If you watch one thing today, let it be this… Elon Musk goes on Joe Rogan and tears the mask off, exposing exactly why Democrats are prolonging the government shutdown and fighting to keep the money flowing to criminal aliens: “The Democratic Party wants to destroy democracy by importing voters.” “The reason you have this standoff is because if the hundreds of billions of dollars to create a financial incentive to like to have this giant magnet to attract illegals from every part of Earth to these states, if that is turned off, the illegals will leave because they're no longer being paid to come to the United States and stay here.” “They will lose a lot of voters. The Democratic Party will lose a lot of voters." Scott McClallen at TownHall cites a Republican Lawmaker: Federal Government Can't Use Contingency Funds to Pay SNAP. It may have to go to the Supreme Court. At The Right Scoop, BUSTED: Elizabeth Warren’s CFPB fanboys actually tried to GROW the swamp during shutdown — It didn’t end well "The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau—the brainchild of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren while she was still a law professor at Harvard—plans to add legal staff, American Banker reported." The Babylon Bee @TheBabylonBee, "Embarrassed Democrats Admit They Can't Remember Why They Shut The Government Down https://buff.ly/Lii0XtW."

From RCP, From Doom to Boom: How Trump’s Tariffs Are Powering the U.S. Economy "Six months ago, critics warned that President Donald Trump’s tariffs would crush the economy. They said Americans would face soaring prices and crashing markets. The reality? As we near the end of 2025, the story looks very different. Growth is up, markets are strong, and strategic onshore opportunities are emerging." At ET, Truck Tariffs to Take Effect, With Mexico and Canada Sharing Brunt of Impact "The U.S. trade deficit with Mexico for medium- and heavy-duty trucks soared above $5.1 billion in 2024." Sundance reports Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Confirms He Apologized to President Trump for Reagan Ad Effort. I hope he groveled appropriately.

Sundance, Vice President JD Vance Discusses the Challenges with the Ukraine-Russia Conflict. From the Asia Times, What Trump’s visit really meant for ASEAN, "Trump’s presence at ASEAN summit was more than ceremonial – it was a signal that SE Asia is central to America’s Indo-Pacific vision." Rich Lowry at NYPo says Trump reverses ‘asinine’ US nuclear-weapons policy — and it’s about time. The president said in a Truth Social post that the United States will begin “immediately” testing our “Nuclear Weapons” on “an equal basis” with Russia and China. It’s not clear what this means exactly; Trump could be referring to the delivery systems that carry nuclear weapons, or the weapons themselves." Any way . . . and Trump Recognizes Ongoing Christian Genocide in Nigeria, Now What? From TNP, South Africa Complains About Trump Prioritizing White, Afrikaner Refugees.

At Twitchy, John Stossel states the obvious, 'Just STUPID'! John Stossel Explains Why the Utopian Socialist Policies Mamdani Wants ALWAYS Backfire. Nick Gillespie at Reason predicts Mamdani's Socialist Mayorship Will Make New York a Worse Place To Live and Do Business, "His plans to offer "free" buses and daycare, freeze rents, and create city-owned grocery stores are expensive and proven failures." Roger Kimball at Am Great watches New York Reruns: What Mamdani Means for New York. "New York flirts with a familiar disaster as Zohran Mamdani rides Rousseauvian rhetoric toward the same ruinous script that doomed revolutions past." Dan Greenfield at Front Page claims Mamdani Losing With Every Religious Group Except Muslims.

Althouse finds "A decade ago, Republican voters, furious with their leaders... tossed out all conventional notions of presidential fitness to coalesce behind Donald Trump." ""Platner is still a contender because a similar alienation is building among Democrats, and party elites seem to have no idea what to do about it." Writes Michelle Goldberg, in "I Thought Graham Platner Was Finished. What I Saw in Maine Changed My Mind" (NYT)." Ellie McKown-Dawson at the Silver Bulletin wonders Is New Jersey the next swing state? "Probably not. But a Republican win on Tuesday would make the state worth watching in 2028." Michael Barone also states the obvious, Democrats Want Open Borders; Most Americans Don't. John Sexton at Hat Hair has More Bad News for Dems: Focus Groups See The Party as Weak and Woke. Matt Van Swol @matt_vanswol, "I want someone to seriously answer the question: Do Democrats actually win elections without cheating?" DataRepublican (small r) @DataRepublican, "You know how our government backs coups in other countries to replace one party with another? Well, the same groups, intelligence agencies, nonprofits, foundations, have long ago turned those tactics inward, backing Democrats to overthrow Republicans. That’s the whole explanation." A natural segue to "Arctic Frost." Shipwreckedcrew, Operation "Arctic Frost" -- What It Was And How It Started. At Da Blaze, Damning new docs reveal who's on Biden admin's 'enemies list,' expose extent of FBI's Arctic Frost. PJM's Matt Margolis has hopes Rogue Judge Boasberg May Finally Be Impeached. I predict it won't happen, but he may step down "to spend more time with his family." An impeachment trial would be amusing, not because he would be convicted (the 2/3 bar in the Senate is too high), but because John Roberts would have to preside, and he is reputedly a close friend of Boasberg.

Streiff argues The Division Between Liberal Supreme Court Justices Could Damage the Institution's Credibility "I think Brown's self-appointed role on the Supreme Court comes straight out of Saul Alinsky's rules for radicals. She is not interested in a collegial relationship with other justices. She is interested in demeaning them (see her “let‑them‑eat‑cake obliviousness" comment in the Harvard vs. Students for Fair Admissions case; BREAKING: Supreme Court Rejects Race-Based College Admissions – RedState) because people hurt, not institutions. She discredits the Court as a rubber stamp for the administration (see “Calvinball has only one rule: There are no fixed rules. We seem to have two: that one, and this administration always wins," from APHA vs NIH; One Supreme Court Justice Has Nosedived Into Irrelevance; Can You Guess Who? – RedState). She knows her views can't attract a five-vote, or maybe even a three-vote, majority, so she attacks the motives of other justices and the fairness of the process. Carrying the day is not as important as discrediting the winning decision."

ET is outraged Trump Can’t Require Proof of Citizenship for Voters: Judge "The ruling came in response to lawsuits filed by multiple groups, including the Democratic National Committee, as well as Democrats in Congress."

Althouse "If transgender identity were an innate trait, like left-handedness, we would expect identification rates to rise at first when it became socially acceptable..." ""... then plateau and remain stable at a fixed level. If the phenomenon were instead driven by social contagion, we might expect a boom-and-bust pattern: a spike followed by a rapid decline once the social forces driving it weaken. Recent data offer a mixed picture.... The overwhelming majority of those driving the trans craze fall into the 'nonbinary' category -- adopting identities which are said to be neither, both, or somewhere between male and female. These include labels such as 'demiboy,' 'genderfluid' or 'two-spirit.' These are social identities, not biological ones. Unlike left- or right-handedness, which describe objectively measurable traits, 'nonbinary' identities have no anatomical or physiological referent. They are conceptual, political and responsive to cultural trends.... The social-contagion hypothesis was never hateful. It was purely descriptive: a recognition that social and cultural factors shape human behavior...." I'm reading "Evidence Backs the Transgender Social-Contagion Hypothesis" by Colin Wright, an evolutionary biologist, in The Wall Street Journal."

Stacy McCain wonders Has Tucker Carlson Lost His Mind? (And Is This Kind of Insanity Contagious?). I think Tucker's desire to have the outrageous on his podcast drives his needs. Does he subscribe to these views? Only some, I think.

From ET, Trump Sits Down for First ‘60 Minutes’ Interview Following CBS Settlement "The interview is scheduled to air on Nov. 2, according to CBS." Let's see if they dig themselves another hole.
