Beach Report 9/19/25

A lovely near fall day. About 75, sunny, and nearly glassy calm.
We only found 10 teeth, and nothing notable. The tide was dead high, and we didn't wade around the rocks because . . .
Masses of Sea Nettles were washing up. After several days where they were rare to non-existent, the wind and tides must have conspired to send them to commit hara-kiri on the beach like lemmings off a cliff.  I've seen them in masses but never this thick!
I walked in the water by the edge, and it felt pretty gooey.  However, I never got stung. Their stinging tentacles must have been beaten off in the surf.  It's getting late in the year for the nettles, and this will certainly put a significant dent in their population.
