Palm Sunday

 With Mercedes Blanche:

Tree experts have slammed local councils for chopping down palm trees at a time when they are more important than ever in the face of climate change.

Despite trees being good for our well-being, biodiversity, providing vital cooling in heatwaves and offsetting our carbon footprint, councils in Torquay and Plymouth and London's TfL have all removed trees recently.

The instance of felling Torquay's iconic palm trees in particular drew the ire of an Oxford University tree expert, who dubbed it a 'shame'. The council have said the palm trees will be replaced as part of 'restoration works'.
