Local Lady Solves West Coast Whale Mystery

Chesapeake Bay Mag, Bay Researcher’s Arctic Study Uncovers Cause Of Gray Whale Die-Off

Research happening right on the Chesapeake Bay is helping scientists understand what’s behind a concerning decline in the gray whale population. A researcher at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Chesapeake Biological Lab has made multiple trips to the Arctic region to pin down a key prey species for the gray whale, and her work continues inside the lab in Solomons.

Good for her!

But it does illustrate an interesting feature of science. A woman in Maryland specializes in West Coast whales. Wouldn't it be more efficient for her to work at a West Coast University?
