Read that sentence a couple of times.
Joe Cunningham at Red State, New Report Shows What the FBI Is Looking For at Mar-a-Lago
The search, according to two people familiar with the investigation, appeared to be focused on material that Mr. Trump had brought with him to Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence, after he left the White House. Those boxes contained many pages of classified documents, according to a person familiar with their contents.
Mr. Trump delayed returning 15 boxes of material requested by officials with the National Archives for many months, only doing so when there became a threat of action being taken to retrieve them.
Curious, because up until 11:59 AM on Jan. 20, Trump had the authority to wave his hands over the boxes and declare them unclassified. We know that late in his administration Trump declassified a large mass of material relating to Russiagate, but that the DOJ resisted releasing them until Trump was out of office, and they could safely keep up the coverup under Biden/Garland. Andrea Widburg at Am Think think Mark Elias tipped the government/DOJs hand, Marc Elias boasts about the real motive behind the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid. Disqualification of a potential Trump run. At LI, Herr Professor Jacobsen warns This is a provocation. They are trying to get a reaction that allows a further crackdown. Don’t take the bait. All of the above can be true simultaneously. Capt. Ed at Haut Hair wonders about the Trump raid: What's the Biden/Garland endgame?
But if that’s all this is — a dispute over handling classified material — the DoJ had better prepare itself for major blowback. Garland’s predecessors rather infamously refused to prosecute former Secretary of State and then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for the exact same crime while she ran against Trump, and perhaps on an even greater scale. Remember the infamous server that Clinton “wiped, with a cloth” before reluctantly handing it over to the FBI? That had thousands of classified documents in digital form, including a handful classified at Top Secret-Compartmented, the highest range of protection for the nation’s secrets. The decision not to pursue charges in that case blew up into a major scandal for the Barack Obama administration and especially Loretta Lynch and James Comey, who would go on to other failures.
Althouse again, cites Byron York, "Secrecy is exactly what is wrong about this." Byron York@ByronYork, "Below, @axios on Trump Mar-A-Lago raid. Secrecy is exactly what is wrong about this. Secrecy allowed wild media speculation in Trump-Russia matter. As target, Trump is entitled to copy of warrant, underlying affidavit. He should make them public immediately. Today." Also, If it was political, why was it so politically obtuse?. Andrew Yang@AndrewYang, "It looks increasingly like the FBI raid was to find mishandled classified documents and not some other DOJ investigation which was my first thought. Mishandling documents doesn’t seem like raid material. It does however seem like excellent campaign material for Trump." Regarding a point I made above, Da Caller reports a ‘Smoking Gun’: Biden Admin Sued For Not Releasing Docs Declassified By Trump On Russia Collusion Investigation
Judicial Watch is suing the DOJ to obtain the records, as well as communications between DOJ officials and government employees on the declassification of the records. The lawsuit, which was filed on Aug. 1, comes after the conservative watchdog submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in February.
“The Obama-Biden Administration and Deep State spying on Trump and his associates is the worst government corruption scandal in American history,” Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, said in a statement Monday. “And to make matters worse, the Biden DOJ simply refuses to release smoking gun documents about this corruption that the American people have an absolute right to see!”
Trump issued a memo on Jan. 19, 2021 declassifying materials in a binder that the DOJ gave to the White House in December 2020 on the “Crossfire Hurricane” probe. However, the binder’s materials never saw the light of day after the DOJ sought to issue redactions over privacy concerns, as detailed in a memo on Jan. 21, 2021 authored by then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, who told the DOJ he would return the records.
Is that what they were looking for when they cracked the safe? I suspect the contents of that folder reflect very poorly on the DOJ and FBI leadership.
At ET, Rep. Gohmert Cites US Code that May Force Capitol Police to Release Remaining Jan. 6 Surveillance Footage. Defendants need the right to search for exculpatory material.
“As you must be aware,” Gohmert wrote, “2 U.S.C. § 1979 states that ‘any Member … of either House of Congress’ can ‘obtain information from the Capitol Police regarding the operations and activities of the Capitol Police that affect the Senate and House of Representatives.’ Subsection (c) makes clear that nothing in that law may be construed to prevent us, as Members of the House of Representatives from our ability to obtain those videos.
At Behind The Black,
Today’s blacklisted American: Doctor jailed for entering Capitol on Jan 6
and expressing opinions
Blacklists are back and the Democrats have got ’em: Simone Gold, one of the thousands of doctors who strongly objected to the federal government’s COVID policies during the Wuhan panic, has begun a six month jail sentence for “trespassing” during the January 6th 2021 protests at the Capitol.
While US officials tried to smear and marginalize Gold and her group, her actual jail sentence was linked to her participation in the January 6, 2021 Trump rally in the US Capitol. According to Gold, she proceeded to the Capitol building on that date, where police let her into the building with a group that did not use force; and she spoke to the crowd inside about medical freedom.Explain to me how she committed trespass when the authorities controlling the Capitol let her into the building? She did not, and thus is being persecuted by the Biden administration simply because she has strongly and publicly opposed its policies related to COVID.
As a result, she was charged with trespassing, and sentenced to jail time. [emphasis mine]
Atop Da Hill, Jan. 6 committee acquires Alex Jones’s texts. Just a fishing expedition.
The committee has accused Jones and other right-wing figures of stoking the rioters leading up to and during the Capitol breach, as well as peddling former President Trump’s false claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
Jones breached the restricted area on the Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, though he didn’t go into the building.
The exact dates of Jones’s phone records aren’t yet clear, but the committee has expressed interest in what Jones may have said in texts leading up the the attacks.
"No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session."
Not shockingly, at Am Great, the redoubtable Julie Kelly has a diametrically different view of the Secret Service text "scandal" than AllahPundit at Haut Hair, The Scandal of the Secret Service’s Deleted Texts
Despite Guglielmi’s spin, congressional leaders had already asked DHS officials to produce “all documents and materials that refer or relate to events that could or ultimately did transpire on January 6” before Cuffari opened his inquiry. The devices were evidence in a congressional investigation; failing to archive backups of phones belonging to any DHS employee even remotely tied to what happened on January 6 is highly suspect if not a federal offense.
And the purge did not happen while Trump or his Homeland Security chief were in charge. Between Congress’ first request for DHS to retain all records associated with January 6 and the cell phone “reset” on January 27, 2021, Joe Biden became president—which means the deletions happened on his watch. (David Pekoske, Biden’s current director of the Transportation Safety Administration and a Trump holdover, temporarily served as DHS chief from January 20 until February 2, 2021 when Alejandro Mayorkas was confirmed by the Senate.)
So Joe Biden’s DHS is thwarting the internal January 6 investigation—and Cuffari warned congressional Democrats at least twice of the department’s noncooperation.
. . .
To recap: Joe Biden’s DHS allowed a purge of Secret Service cell phone data without mandating and archiving content, is stonewalling an internal investigation into what Joe Biden insists is a terrorist attack comparable to 9/11, and now shrugs off the fact that texts from 24 Secret Service employees including the head of agency over a crucial one-month period might be gone for good.
Given those revelations, one would assume the January 6 committee and House Democrats would be livid at DHS officials and calling for heads to roll. They are—but they want Cuffari’s head.
That's enough for now.
