Tornado Just Misses Washington D.C.

If by just misses you mean 60 miles or more: D.C. skipped the rain, but not the humidity and waterspout

The torrential rains that flooded parts of the District on Sunday were absent Monday, but humid, moisture- laden air, suggestive of the tropics, remained in the Washington region, producing clammy conditions and another waterspout.

The National Weather Service said Coast Guard personnel reported the spout, regarded as a tornado over water, near Deal Island, Md., on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay about 12:20 p.m. Monday.

Deal Island is on Maryland's Eastern Shore, south of us. In fact, we lie almost on the straight line between D.C. and Deal Island, and I didn't feel the slightest threat of a tornado yesterday.  But wait, there was a threat a little closer to D.C.

On Sunday evening, a waterspout was spotted in the Back River area, near Baltimore.

That might make it only 40 miles or so.  The worst thing about a waterspout in Back River would be all the sewage it would drag up into the air.
