Jan. 6 Anniversary

As Insty notes PLEASE OBSERVE ASHLI BABBITT REMEMBRANCE DAY in a dignified, somber fashion.. I dug the buffalo skin and headdress out; the buffalo skin didn't fit anymore because of the "quarantine 15", and the headdress was all moth eaten. And Gabi has mixed all the blue and red face paint together to make purple. Jazz Shaw at Haut Hair, Let us never forget the significance of January 6th: It's National Shortbread Day, and other assorted historical moments.  Insty, YES, JANUARY 6 IS A BIG DEAL: "This was the day in history, just to pick one momentous example of the many cited by Issues & Insights, that George Washington married Mary Dandridge Custis in 1759. And January 6, 1540, was also the day Henry VIII married wife number four, Ann of Cleves." Also Insty, IT’S THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF A MOSTLY PEACEFUL PROTEST THAT PEOPLE ARE CALLING AN INSURRECTION. "But since no one has actually been charged with insurrection, I have to ask: Can you have an insurrection without insurrectionists?" WSJ, Stop Calling Jan. 6 an ‘Insurrection’, "That’s a legal term that denotes much more than a sporadically violent riot or disturbance."We have a republic, if we can keep it. Victor Davis Hanson at Am Great, asks Who Are the Real Insurrectionists?, and provides the answer. James Bovard at NYPo,  Dems and media who portray Jan. 6 as a near-fatal attack on democracy are absurd. FH Buckley at Am Spec, Insurrection Day Revisited "You probably still need to turn yourself in." Illegal thoughts! Jesse Kelly@JesseKellyDC

PRO TIP: All the January 6th stuff this week is a distraction technique because the communists are under water on every single issue that matters to Americans. They’re trying to turn your head away from real problems. Stop letting them set the narrative.

Paul Bedard on GETTR., Paul Bedard @SecretsBedard " "Dems planning a national day of protest/rallying Jan. 6, leading to warnings of parts of DC shutting down, street closings near White House, Capitol shows, danger. Here's one list . . .: " It's going to snow tonight, so they'll get an extra day off.

Jimmy Carter, or his ghostwriter, at NYT cited at Haut Hair, I fear for our democracy. Althouse has some perspective, "One year ago, a violent mob, guided by unscrupulous politicians, stormed the Capitol and almost succeeded in preventing the democratic transfer of power." Writes Jimmy Carter — or someone writing under the name Jimmy Carter — in The New York Times.

I would "fear for our democracy" if a mob could seize power by seizing the Capitol, but only a little, because I don't think a mob could seize the Capitol. I saw my state's capitol occupied by protesters — with the intent to obstruct the operation of government — for 4 months, back in 2011. They delayed legislative action for quite a while, but they didn't take over governmental power. Their presence was tolerated — it didn't need to be — and eventually the law was passed and the group went home.

The Wisconsin protesters characterized what they were doing — interfering with the duly elected government — as "democracy," chanting, endlessly, "This is what democracy looks like." That is, those who win the elections should be subjected to continual criticism, vigorous protest, and friction every step of the way as they try to carry out the agenda that won the election. That's real democracy.

Is Carter pushing the idea that everyone is required to believe the announced results of the election are true and that democracy is endangered if they don't? If so, how does he handle the "Russian collusion" theory that dogged Trump for years?

Ace, Ted Cruz Calls January 6 Riots "A Violent Terrorist Attack on the Capitol" "Ohhh. So that's why so many of you guys always hated Ted Cruz and thought he was an inauthentic poser." Nice Deb at Am Great isn't too happy either, Ted Cruz Calls January 6 Riot a ‘Violent Terrorist Attack on the Capitol’ Sundance at CTH, Senator Ted Cruz Calls J6 Protestors “Violent Terrorists Who Should Go to Jail for a Long, Long Time” "Oh dear, this statement by Senator Ted Cruz is going to put Ms. Julie Kelly in quite a pickle."

WaPoo, cited at Haut Hair reports Biden to squarely blame Trump for Jan. 6 assault. PM, Psaki says Biden will speak about the 'truth' of what happened on Jan. 6. Biden wouldn't know the truth if it was in his ice cream cone. Some satire from The People's Cube, Biden declares 6th of January Bonfire Day

Dateline, Washington D.C. -- Today President Biden signed legislation making January 6th an annual national holiday.

Bonfire Day (as it is to be called) has been set aside as a national day of remembrance. "January 6th is to be forever remembered as the day of Donald Trump's plot to blow-up the Capitol building, the day when our democracy and the American way of life were snuffed out," the document says.

From this day forward, Bonfire Day will be celebrated in every community across the nation with bonfires and the burning in effigy of Donald Trump and any others implicated in the destruction of our free democratic government and the American way of life.

Loyal citizens will join together to reinforce the communal spirit by burning dangerous books and by peacefully looting and torching local groceries, department stores, gas stations, and car dealerships.

Natalia Mittelstadt at JTN, Jan. 6 Capitol riot a year later: Over 700 rioters charged, DOJ won't say if feds were involved. Oh, they were, I have no doubt, the question is how deeply involved. Andy Kerr at WaEx, Federal authorities won't say why armed Capitol rioters disappeared from FBI's most wanted list Jordan Boyd at Da Fed, Is The FBI Ever Going To Get Around To Finding The Jan. 6 Pipe Bomber, Or Nah?. Funny, they're usually very good at finding bombers, when they want to be. At RCP, Will Cain: So Where Has January 6 "FBI Most Wanted" Ray Epps Been? "The Daily Mail" Found Him On His Ranch In Arizona

Jazz Shaw at Haut Hair, The missing chapter of "holding all January 6 rioters accountable"  "I still think that the people who are found guilty of actual rioting on January 6th need to be held accountable. But if you aren’t expressing the same level of outrage over the BLM riots, spare me your breathless, sanctimonious outrage. We can see right through it." From RCI, Updated and Reposted: Jan. 6-BLM Riots Comparison. Matt Mayer at Am Great  on the youngest charged rioter, January 6 Defendant Deserves Justice Tempered with Leniency and Reason, " "Bruno Cua’s case isn’t just about him. It is about ensuring that justice in America is even-handed and dispensed with leniency and reason. "

Hmm, at the Seattle Times, Seattle police improperly faked radio chatter about Proud Boys as CHOP formed in 2020, investigation finds and at JTN, Defense: Whitmer 'kidnapping plot' disintegrating as FBI loses credibility, "The crux of the case is whether the alleged extremists or the FBI itself fueled the plan." Cooked it up, funded and did most of the leg work.

Sara Carter, Ranking GOP Member Exposes Pelosi’s Obstruction to Jan 6 Security Records. At Breitbart, Stefanik Torches Pelosi on Eve of January 6 Anniversary: Speaker ‘Bears Responsibility’ for Capitol Riot. Insty, WHAT DID PELOSI DECIDE AND WHEN ON JAN6: "That’s the question House Republicans are asking with increasing intensity these days as the Speaker refuses to cough up requested documents about her role in the days leading up to and including January 6." Will she enjoy her turn in the barrel when the Republicans take the house.

Below is my column in the Hill on the continued calls to disqualify Republican members of Congress to prevent them from running for reelection. What is maddening is that Democratic groups and commentators are seeking to remove as many as 120 Republicans from the ballots in the name of democracy. It is like burning books in the name of literacy. Yet, on this anniversary of the January 6th riot, members of Congress and Democratic groups want to block voters from reelecting their preferred representatives. Like villages in Vietnam, it appears that some members and activists believe that you have to destroy democracy to save it from itself. . . .

Atop Da Hill, Partner of fallen Capitol Police officer says Trump 'needs to be in prison' for Jan. 6. Which is why we don't let police officers charge cases. At CNS News, Capitol Police Chief: 'We Will Likely Be Tested Again'; Not If, But 'When'. And if it's a Democrat controlled crowd you'll roll over on your backs like you always have.
