Go Redskins!

I came in from the beach, and just happened to notice that the first regular Sunday NFL games were starting, and that the Washington Redskins, the closest thing to the local team, was playing the Houston Texans.

While I think Dan Snyder is a horrible owner, I think he's right on the Redskins name controversy. The name was intended as a compliment, a testament to the American Indians fighting prowess. A majority of Americans, and indeed, a majority of Indians Native Americans support the Redskin's keeping the names. Only the professional grievance mongers of the left are demanding this, and if you yield to them on that, they'll just move on and demand that you name teams after their heroes. I can see it now; the Washington Bolsheviks. Heck, you could even keep the same color uniforms.

Now, somehow that gene on the Y-chromosome that enables most men to care about sports, and their local team, didn't get passed on to me. I arrived in the D.C. in the Jack Kent Cooke/Joe Gibbs era when the Redskins were a national powerhouse, and survived this far into the Dan Snyder/parade or failed coaches (including Joe Gibbs) era without falling into a depression. A couple of girls, Garfunkle and Oates, capture my level of caring pretty well.

And now, some Redskins Cheerleaders:

And the game? 0 to 0 at 4:14 left in the first quarter. UPDATE: They lost.

Wombat-socho must have skipped the Redskins's game to post "Rule 5 Sunday: The Man Who Saved Britain" at The Other McCain.
