A Baltimore Police officer was shot early Sunday morning while he was dispersing a large party in West Baltimore, according to City Council President Brandon Scott. What's the difference between a large party, and a riot in Baltimore? That's easy, they don't try to stop a riot.
Scott wrote in a statement that the unnamed officer was shot “as he and other officers were attempting to disperse a large party."
Police said the officer is currently in stable condition after he was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for surgery.
In the wake of ongoing social distancing guidelines still in effect throughout Maryland, Scott wrote that the shooting highlights the difficult task of policing during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Since the beginning of COVID-19, our officers have worked non-stop to ensure the safety of Baltimoreans,” Scott wrote. “It is irresponsible and disappointing that people continue to put their own lives - and our entire community - at risk by having gatherings during a public health pandemic.”
The department wrote in a tweet at 4:32 a.m. that the officer was shot in 2300 block of Winchester St. in the Bridgeview/Greenlawn neighborhood of West Baltimore.
Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said the suspected gunman was arrested at the scene and that the shot officer aided in the arrest. Police have not named the suspect.
“Even though our officer was shot, with the help of another officer, the two of them were still able to subdue this subject and take him into custody without injuring that suspect,” Harrison said. “We are certainly proud of their actions today.”
One day you wash up on the beach, wet and naked. Another day you wash back out. In between, the scenery changes constantly.

Forget It Jake, It's Baltimore
Balmer Sun, Baltimore Cop Shot Enforcing Social Distancing: Baltimore officer in stable condition after he was shot while dispersing large party; suspect in custody
3 Possible inter-actions here.
ReplyDelete1) (Probably not possible with the current breed of "Door Kickers and Dog Killers") Write him a ticket, call a cab and send him home. Impound the car and wait till he shows up in court (if She/He/It does). If SHIT don't, well now we have a problem. Another problem - are the DK&DK's responsible if later he asphyxiates on his own vomit and dies?
2) Shoot him if he resists arrest.
3) Swarm him and pull a Rodney King.
Somehow I doubt that 2 and 3 are going to remain that popular in the future.
The problem is EVERY LAW in the United States is backed by the threat of death (Some people, and sub cultures, have not figured this out). If you litter, get a ticket, refuse to go to court. Fight the DK&DK's when they come to arrest you? Bang your Dead.
Not much else in the way of choices in the current system. As I said above MOST people have figured this out, some, because of Drugs, alcohol, Machismo, pure stupidity or panic to name a few options, have not.
You figure out the solution, it's not my job. Protest all you want. It is your right. But if you loot or burn I'll shoot.
Crap. I meant for that comment to go on the post below "Praying for Atlanta". Not this post. I can only blame drugs. If you are wondering about that comment then check out the link to my blog.
