Fortunately, whales have a fairly narrow gullet, and no interest in eating people, let alone kayaks.
Avila Beach is where my parents retirement home was (before they moved to Murphys, California). We visited nearby Pismo Beach frequently, even having family reunions at the beach after they moved. You can find some old posts from there in the archives. We often rented kayaks, but never got close to any whales, although it was pretty common to see them blow.
