Today's Chore

A few days ago the tubes in the 4 ft fluorescent shop light that has been the light source over the work bench in our garage finally gave up the ghost, after almost 30 years. I dithered a few days, and stole a couple of tubes from the garage ceiling lights. It worked, but it wasn't a very elegant solution, so I started searching Amazon for LED equivalents.

There are numerous choices, of two types. In one, you can leave the ballast in line, and just swap the tubes out, but it will compromise some the the energy savings from the LEDs. So I settled on this one:

Hyperikon T8 T10 T12 LED Light Tube, 4FT, Dual-End Powered

2340 lumens in Crystal White, and got a 4 pack for $42.80. The link goes to my Amazon Associates account, which means I get a little cut, at no added expense to you, if you order them using this link. They arrived today, two days after we ordered it on Amazon Prime. It required me to rewire the shop light fixture a bit to take out the ballast, but I got it right on the first try. It was so nice and bright with two tubes, that we went ahead and tore down one of the garage lights and put the second pair in it. The wiring was a little different, but, again, it was a simple fix, and now that half of the garage is brightly lit as well. Someday, we may get around to the second light in the garage.
