Beach Report, 9/3/14

The high clouds seem to have given us relief from the predicted high temperatures, even though we got down to the beach in the hottest hours, the clouds, a stiff breeze made it eminently tolerable despite a fair amount of humidity. Truly a summer for the record books, in a good way.
A fair crowd at the beach for a school day.
But some beach goers don't care about the school, or the weather. This Great Blue Heron took the posing post for a while after we pushed it off the beach.
Only to give it up to a Belted Kingfisher.  Not a great shot, too close to end of the zoom lens and a little dark, with some motion blur.  But before I got closer, it took off, went out a little ways, dove and grabbed a fish. Not the most common bird to see here.
And the Ospreys are still out there packing on the calories in anticipation of the trip south. No Eagles in evidence to bother them. They're probably back at the nest rubbing their bellies by late afternoon.
