The Navy Jet Crash in Virginia Beach

Probably everybody has heard about the crash of the F-18 in Virginia Beach yesterday, but if not, very briefly, an F-18 out on a training run had some major problem.  The pilots headed for the landing field but were unable to reach it.  They dumped all the fuel they could, and ejected from the plane, which crashed into an apartment complex in Virginia Beach. Amazingly, there were no fatalities and only a few injuries.  There's an interesting set of pictures at the Washington Post.

A friend on mine works for the Navy, in the group that decides whether a plane flies or sits on the ground while being fixed.  He seems busy right now, but when it becomes public (probably long after the crash is forgotten by most of the public), I hope to hear what happened.
