Baltimore Spills 24,000 Gallons of $#!*

Heavy rains cause 24,000 gallons of sewage overflow in city

This past Wednesday, we had heavy rains in the area, and when we have heavy rains, $#!* happens, in Baltimore, literally.  This time, 24,000 gallons of untreated sewage were spilled onto city streets, which ultimately drain into the Bay.  24,000 gallons sounds like a lot of $!*, and it is if it's in your yard, but as sewage spills go, it fairly small, and will not likely add significantly to problems in Baltimore Harbor.  Baltimore has miles of old sewage system, and fixing it so this doesn't continue to occur will be an expensive proposition:

Public Works has started a $1 billion rehabilitation of the sewer network, which will prevent spills and result in protections for urban streams and the Chesapeake Bay. It's scheduled to be completed in 2016.
